Raising Aidan Foundation 1st Annual Golf Day – Friday, 9 June 2017
The Raising Aidan Foundation is hosting it’s 1st annual golf day on Friday, 9 June 2017. The objective of
this golf day is to raise much needed funds to assist with Aidan (7), who was diagnosed with Costello
Syndrome.
Aidan’s Story:
Aidan was diagnosed at 18 months of age with a very rare genetic mutation, called Costello Syndrome. He
is the 2nd of only 3 known cases in South Africa, and around 300 to 400 world-wide. He is very prone to
cancerous tumours and goes for screenings every 3 months. He has a thickened left ventricle wall in his
heart. He has tight tendons all over his body. Has survived feeding challenges typical to his syndrome. He
is incredibly intelligent, but battles with delays in learning. He has to date had 11 general anaesthetics to
cater for MRI’s, some small operations all the way to life and quality of life threatening operations, all side
effects of his syndrome.
The last 24 months have been the most challenging with an operation on both his feet to correct
positioning, his spine to release a tethered cord which caused some nerve damage, and the last being an
operation on his eyelids, nose and throat. He is scheduled to have his next operation on the 8th May, to
correct the nerve damage that was caused by his tethered spinal cord in 2016.
His costs not covered by medical aid, average around R35 000 each month, and to cover these expenses,
his mom Melissa, manufactures and distributes a microwave cupcake mix, does public speaking
engagements, runs a ‘from home bakery’ supplying birthday / special occasion cakes, corporate catering,
and a gifting service. Understandably, when Aidan is not well, Melissa finds it challenging to run her
business AND take care of Aidan and usually forfeits work in order to do so.
He has come through smiling, and a true hero to all who know him, and when you get to meet this champ,
you’ll see he has a personality LARGER than LIFE!

In order to make this golf day a great one, we are seeking your support with a wide range of options, which
include the following:
Purchase of four balls
We have an “EARLY BIRD” discounted rate of R3000 PER 4 BALL:
Book and pay for your 4 Ball by midnight of the 25th April 2017, and receive our discount.
Thereafter, 4 balls will be sold at R3500.
This includes: Green fees, Half way house and a Plovers Cup Dinner. It also includes goodie bags filled
with gifts from our sponsors. Please book early to avoid disappointment as we are limited to the number of
four balls. Registration closes Thursday 25 May 2017.
Holes are sold at R5500.00 per hole. This includes a four ball as above mentioned. If you do not require a
four ball the cost is R3000.00 per hole. A confirmation letter will go out explaining branding requirements
and dates for delivery once payment has been received.
Prizes
The Success of the Golf day is dependent on the prizes. We require a range of prizes for golf (i.e. top 5
Four balls, Longest drive, nearest to the Pin etc) and for raffle prizes. We are also on the hunt for a great
Auction Prize.
Give aways for Golfers
Raising Aidan are looking to put a give away (handout) together, for the all the golfers who participate.
Should you not be in the position to sponsor a prize or a hole, maybe consider donating handouts for the
give away.
On the Day
Confirmation letters will be sent out on receiving payment.
It promises to be a fun-packed day! On arrival, you will enjoy light refreshments while registering. Then it is
down to the serious stuff – GOLF.
After a refreshing shower – doubtless followed by some equally refreshing drinks – it’s onto dinner.
Over a mouth-watering Plover dinner, you will be able to discuss just what caused that slice to go 40 yards
out of bounds. This is all included, with prize giving, an AUCTION and then the Raffle with some fantastic
prizes.
