Calvin Coolidge School Summer Reading/Math Dear Incoming Grade 2 Students, Attached is a list of grade level appropriate books that you are required to select two from to read over the summer. In addition, you will need to complete the attached book report assignment sheet for each selection. We also expect you to continue to build upon your math skills, as well, over the summer. To help accomplish this we ask that you visit the math websites that are listed below. They will allow for some fun and exciting ways to build and strengthen your math computational skills through games and interactive activities. Your completed assignments will be turned into your homeroom teacher in September. They will be counted towards your 1st marking period reading grade. Have a very happy, healthy and enjoyable summer! They name him Willy and spend a day full of adventures with him. Swimmy by, Leo Lionni This is the story of a tiny black fish in a school of red fish who must find a way to protect them all from their natural enemies in the sea. Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People's Ears: A West African Tale by, Verna Aardema This is a West African folk tale about a mosquito brags to an iguana that he saw a farmer digging yams as big as mosquitoes. The iguana scoffs at such an idea and refuses to listen to any more nonsense. The Velveteen Rabbit by, Margery Williams The Velveteen Rabbit is a stuffed toy that is waiting in a nursery for a child to choose it. There other toys, as well, in the nursery that also wish to be chosen by a child. As time goes by, Rabbit starts to worry that he will never be chosen. He has heard how toys like him become real through the love of human beings. Will Rabbit ever be chosen and will he get to become real?
