1) What conditions did freed slaves face in the decades after the Civil War? Essay should cover 18651900, entire time period discussed so far in US History II (2112). In your answer you should discuss

2)How did labor, immigration, and urban areas change in the decades following the Civil War? Essay
should cover 1865-1900, entire time period discussed so far in US History II (2112). In your answer
discuss New vs. Old immigrants, labor vs management/ strikes, growth of urban areas, and the urban
political machine.
3) What made the election of 1896 a turning point in American political and social history? In your
answer make sure to detail the role of Populist, Republicans, and Democrats (include a discussion of
Williams Jennings Bryan). Make sure to provide a cursory discussion of conditions/politics before AND
after the election of 1896.
4) Explain and explore the Progressive Era. Answer should address the rise of the middle class, reform
efforts and problems seen by Progressives, muckrakers, and Theodore Roosevelt.
