Papal History during the French Indian War (1752-1763)
Pope Benedict XIV (August 17 [22}, 1740- May 3, 1758) He was interested in literature and
history, encouraged education and research in the arts, sciences and medicine, and preserved
artistic treasures of Rome.
Pope Clement XIII (July 6 [16}, 1758-February 2, 1769) He reaffirmed support for the Jesuits
in the bull Apostolicum Pascendi in 1765. The Jesuits ran successful missions in many lands
and achieved great prestige though their school and colleges.
