Synonyms/Antonyms MRS KIECKHEFER MRS BICE FEBRUARY 3, 2017 Author’s Celebration We loved celebrating our writing! Our Aut hor Celebration was a huge success! Writers received their first piece of writing they did in Kindergarten and compared that to the true story they published for the Author’s Celebration! My, oh my, have we grown! Most students did not even put any letters or words down! Now, we ’r e w r i t i n g t r u e s t o r i e s w i t h beginnings, middles, and endings! We read our writing to the guests who were able to make it, and received compliments on our writing. If you were not able to make it to this celebration, don’t worry, there will more more opportunities to come in! There were plenty of adults, teachers, and all 3 administrators there supporting and listening to all of our kinder writers! I hope you were able to spend some time looking over your child’s work, final piece, and the compliment page! Some things we’ve been working on are writing true stories with a beginning, middle and end, using lowercase letters, spelling heart words correctly, spaces between words, and end marks. Thank you for supporting your published author! Overheard in Kindergarten This week, we learned about synonyms and ant onyms! We lear ned t he difference by singing along to a song called Synonym Stomp! We made mini-books to showcase our learning about synonyms and antonyms and practiced using t hat word in a sentence. Anytime you see an opportunity to talk about synonyms and antonyms with your child, please do so! days smarter! Please read the letter that was sent home yesterday, or see the link on our website blog that gives you information regarding your child’s 100 Day Project. This should be a fun activity that your child enjoys. He/she should be able to count up to 100 and help sort the 100 objects into 10 groups of 10. Practice counting by 5s and by 10s, too! Projects will be displayed in the hallway for the school to view, and are due on Thursday, February 16. Please do not send them in early, as we are limited on storage space! Special Request: toys We have had a lot of students bring to ys, lip gloss, stuffe d an imals, Hatchimals, keychains, etc. to school. We know how much our kiddos love these toys, but please encourage them to keep them safe at home. Thank you for keeping an extra eye out for these toys and making sure they don’t sneak into backpacks! Q2 Wrap-up Author Celebration! European Celebration Thank you to the families who already signed up to bring items for the European Celebration. If you’d still like to sign up, please do so on our google doc by Tuesday morning, so we can get everything ready for Friday’s event. 100th Day Celebration So many celebrations!! We have another celebration coming up, and this one celebrates how we are 100 Can you believe the year is 1/2 over!? You will receive your child’s report card, current BAS level, Scholastic book order forms, and MAP data next week. Please keep an eye out for a manila envelope. We look forward to seeing you again for parent-teacher conferences at the end of Q3! If we feel we need to meet with your family regarding your child’s progress, we will reach out to you!
