Cedar, Fir, Lime and Maple Class
This week has been a week of two halves with regards the weather, towards
the beginning of the week it was very wet and windy and then we have had
beautiful sunny but very cold days.
Please remember it is part of the Early Year Curriculum to learn outside so
children need warm water proof coats and wellington boots.
Please remember to bring in your Teddy
Money this half term!
We’re running low on playdough! If
you have any out-of-date flour, we
would love to have it!
We’ll gladly take any out-of-date pasta,
lentils, rice and other dry pulses too.
We are currently developing our role play
areas
to provide
more
realistic
opportunities for learning.
Please talk to your children about what is
happening in as many places as possible,
for example, what happens in a shop, or at
the train station or at a builders yard.
Don’t forget to provide your child with a
pair of wellington boots. This prevents
shoes getting wet and muddy as we play
outside every day.
We would like to hold open mornings to give you an
opportunity to come into your class and look at your
child’s book and comment on it.
Parents Evening
Parent consultations will
be held on:
Lime and Maple – Wednesday mornings
Cedar and Fir – Thursday mornings
Tuesday 7th February
and Wednesday 22nd
February.
From 8.45 – 9 am
This week we have been learning about money. The
children find it very difficult to remember a 2p coin
has a value of 2!
Look out for a letter, and
make sure you send it
back into school so that
we can arrange your
meeting.
To support their learning here are some websites of
games they can play –

This week we have been
 Continuing to get used to our new phonics
groups – you can help by playing games at
home – www.phonicsplay.co.uk
 Learning about coins and their values
 Writing about animals from Mr Gumpy’s
Outing
Next week we will be
 Continuing to work in our groups for
Phonics.
 Adding and subtracting using different
resources.
 Continuing to learn about transport, and
why and how we travel from one place to
another.

How can you help at
home?
Talk to your child about
keeping healthy through
their diet and exercise
Encouraging your child
to read and write words
and sounds that they
know, as well numbers
and number sentences
Using objects to add and
subtract in real life
contexts.
Encouraging your child
to notice sounds and
numbers in the world
around them – help them
to be an independent
learner!
