Using the How Do They Compare PAGE 4
This worksheet helps students “see” which decimal is greater
by having students shade in models. Most students grasp the
concept more quickly (especially when comparing tenths and
hundredths). You can either use it one time and give each student 1
card to compare, then let each child share it with the class or a small
group.
When I teach this lesson, I laminate the sheet and have
students shade it with dry erase markers in to compare decimals
when I am introducing the concept or comparing decimals. This
really seems to help especially when they are comparing tenths and
hundredths.
Using the Cards PAGES 5 - 20
These cards can be used with multiple Kagan Cooperative
Learning Structures such as Inside-Outside Circles or Quiz, Quiz,
Trade. They can also be used as test prep, flash cash cards, card
activities for math centers (I punch a hole and put them on a ring, or
study aids. I often project them using a document camera for a quick
whole class review. They are “self checking” and easy to make. Simply
fold the cards down the center, glue them together, and cut them out.
Directions for Making the Cards
1. Fold the cards long wise along the middle line and glue the two
sides together.
2. The front of the card is the question or problem. The back is the
answer. This is a great resource because it is “self checking” and
takes very little time and effort to prepare!
