TULUM
XEL-HA
An important archaeological site of the Mayan
Culture, Tulum dates from the Post-Classic period and
is the only Mayan settlement ever discovered to be
surrounded by a wall and constructed by the sea.
Tulum is located 78 miles south of Cancun. During
the ride, a guide will explain the interesting Mayan
Culture. The city of Tulum was built in honor of the
sun. The main structure at the site is The Castle, a
pyramid-like building crowned by a temple which
commands magnificent views of the Caribbean
Sea. Other edifices of interest are the Temple of the
Frescoes & Descending God.
The ancient Maya named this marvelous place “XelHa” which means where water is born. Xel-Ha is
one of nature’s perfect creations and a paradise for
nature lovers. This extraordinary place is formed by
a combination of inlets, lagoons, cenotes and caves
that are fed by the sea. The underground fresh water
springs and rivers turn Xel-Ha into the world’s largest
aquarium. Swim or snorkel in the inlet, peacefully
navigate the river, sunbathe or walk on the beach,
explore the cenotes, discover ancient Mayan murals,
be surrounded by fish, birds, butterflies, iguanas,
macaws, and more in the world of fun and adventure.
CHICHEN ITZA
XENOTES
One of the most important Mayan archaeological
sites, Chichén Itzá became a regional religious and
ceremonial center during the early Post-Classic Maya
period. During the panoramic ride through the lush
green jungle, on the way to Chichén Itzá, a guide
will explain about the interesting Mayan Culture.
Among other important structures such as the Sacred
Well, the Ball Court, the Temple of the Warriors,
the Observatory, you will find the main structure “El
Castillo” the pyramid of Kukulcan, site of the famous
equinox phenomenon. For cultures in the world, this is
an excursion that cannot be missed.
The Xenotes Tour includes a visit to four cenotes
(sinkholes) where you will enjoy activities such as
kayaking, snorkeling, rappelling, zip lines, inner tubes
and swimming, with a period of relaxation to enjoy
a Glam Picnic, a true moment of adventure in contact
with nature. Welcome coffee, chocolate and sweet
breads as well as at every Xenote exit, except the one
where lunch is served. Non-alcoholic beverages (water
and soft drinks) and seasonal fruits reserved en route.
Equipment: life jacket, snorkel equipment, rappel gear
and/ or inner tube.
AKTUN CHEN
Aktun Chen, in the Maya language means “cave
with sinkhole inside”, is a natural park extended 600
hectares (2,400 acres) by virgin tropical jungle, and
is located centrally in the Riviera Maya, between
Akumal and Xel Ha, one hour and 30 minutes from
Cancun. The main attraction in the park is a dry
cave, 540 meters in length, which has thousands
of stalactites and stalagmites, calcium carbonate
columns, and tree roots which penetrate the limestone
until they reach the subterranean water level. Inside
this cave there is a beautiful subterranean “cenote”,
or water filled sinkhole, of crystalline water with a
vault saturated with stalactites.
Jungle, flora and fauna, archaeological sites, solitary
beaches, a turquoise-colored sea with crystal-clear
water, the fantasy and warmth of the tropics, the
mystery of the Mayan culture are just some of the
qualities which have turned the Riviera Maya into the
envy of the Caribbean.
