Place and movement assignment
1.
Use the map to write a detailed description of the relative location of the island.
Include place names and direction.
It is south west from the mainland Greece, and it is in the Mediterranean sea. Mykonos is east
from the mainland Turkey, north from the main land Libya and Egypt, and west from the
mainland Tunisia. To get to it you would have get to it by boat or by plain since it is in the
middle of the sea. The island of Mykonos is about 200km from Greece. Mykonos is very small.
2.
Use the photo to record the following information about this place:
a)
Its physical features
There is grass on the island and trees, there are also many hills that would not have been
manmade, they would be made by weather. Water is also a huge physical feature because it is
surrounding the entire island.
b)
Its human-made features
All the buildings, docks, windmills, boats, and the cars would be human-made features because
they were not made be weather and were made by human beings to help them survive and for
their entertainment.
c)
Evidence of geography’s movement theme
Anything from another country would have to be shipped of flew in because there is water
surrounding the island. There are many boats parked at the dock so they would probably carry
people to the mainland. People would have to walk or drive to a store to get food and other
supplies. There are cars parked in what looks like a parking lot so people could get around the
island without having to walk.
3. Describe the physical and human characteristics that make this place both
unique and popular with tourists.
The physical characteristics of Mykonos that makes this place unique is probably the water
because the island is surrounded by it. Also one of the human made characteristics might be the
windmills, the windmills are interesting in my opinion because they are made out of natural
resources. Another man made thing would be the buildings they are very different from the
buildings in other countries.
4.
Construct a Venn diagram to compare this place to your own community.
-They are similar because they
both are a very small comunity . They are also the same because
they have a lot of the same
physical features such as grass,
trees and soil.
Mykonos has many
buildings all in the same
place and very close
together. The houses are all
very much alike. Mykonos
has water all around the
island. it is in the middle of
the sea.
Mt. Pleasant has quite a
few houses but they are all
pretty spaced out. They are
all very different. Mt.
Pleasant is on the main
land, and the only big
water Mt. Pleasant has is 3
big pounds.
