FSQA - YQCA UPDATE!
Members showing beef, sheep, swine, poultry, rabbits, dairy, and/or goats will
need to make sure they have the proper certification to show at the fair. FSQA
(Food, Safety, Quality, Assurance) was the program the all Iowa 4-H members
were to be certified in to show/sell the above species at the fair. FSQA is transitioning to YQCA (Youth Quality, Care of Animals) over the course of the next 12
months.
YQCA has 4 topic areas (instead of the 10 in FSQA) that covers animal care, character education, animal health products and quality feed. The new system has
both a face to face version and online version.
No FSQA workshops have been scheduled yet, as we are awaiting to look at the
new curriculum for the YQCA program, which is to come out this month.
The state has extended the FSQA program through 2017-2018, so those who
need to test are still able to under the old FSQA system. Those that need workshops - stay tuned! We will get them scheduled as soon as we view and approve
the curriculum for YQCA.
Don’t forget - this is for anyone showing beef, sheep, swine, poultry, rabbits,
dairy and/or goats. All members must have a food safety quality assurance program by July 1.
Don’t worry - we will keep everyone informed when workshops are scheduled
and we have the new curriculum approved. Hold tight, stay tuned and we will
make sure everyone has ample opportunity to be certified to show in Iowa!
