HUMANE SOCIETY OF SCHUYLER COUNTY, INC. May 2009 Humane Society Thrift Store 213 Franklin Street Watkins Glen NY Our annual rummage sales have long been a great way to raise funds for the Humane Society. Our friends have been generous with their donations and volunteer time and we have often talked about trying to open a year round thrift shop as a steady source of income. HSSC We finally taking the plunge and opening the doors of our new shop at 213 N. Franklin. We will be having a ‘soft’ opening Friday May 15 and Saturday May 16, from 10-5, to let folks know we are new in the neighborhood. Watch for announcements of our grand opening and regularly scheduled hours. As is the rest of our organization, our store will be staffed entirely by volunteers. We are accepting donations of: Gently used, seasonal, name brand clothing — in fashion, no rips, no tears, no stains — for men, women and children. We do not have much storage space, so would appreciate your holding on to your off season donations for a later date. Purses, shoes, accessories and jewelry Good quality used furniture, lamps, clocks, mirrors and artwork Sets of dishes ( no missing pieces or chips—please) Current hard cover and paperback books We can also use pant and skirt hangers (no wire hangers please) and clean plastic or shopping bags in various sizes. Due to our limited space, we need to be restrictive about the items we take in. We cannot accept electronics, exercise equipment, bulky bedding, or mattresses Due to the recent changes in laws, we can not accept children’s toys. Nor are we accepting knick knacks as a general rule. We need to restrict our inventory to good quality, higher dollar items to pay our rent and make a profit. If you have items you wish to donate to support our programs, call 546-7710. Please leave a message and someone will return your call. All donations are tax deductible. If you are interested in volunteering a couple hours a week again, please contact us at 546-7710. We’d really welcome your help! Animal Mania for our Annual Meeting Page 2 March 21st What a fun time! Jangles the clown came to visit, making balloon animals for the kids and painting faces. Dr. Sarra Solomon played banjo and daughter Julie made a beautiful cat, both now and ‘face painted’ later. Schuyler County Animal Control Officer, Renee Hatch come to talk about her work , but as is the nature of her work, was almost immediately called out to handle an animal emergency. Friends old and new, came to play with kitties, eat, and look at the animal related displays and photos. We shared stories, celebrated past adoptions and all in all, just had a nice time. June is Adopt a Shelter Cat Month Memorial Donations have been made in made in memory of the following animal lovers: Kathleen Easling and companion animals: Spooker Mikey Willie By the time June hits, we and every other rescue organization will be overflowing with kittens from unwanted litters and cats that no longer have homes. No rescue organization wants to be in the position of having to turn away animals in need. Do your part by spaying and neutering your companion animals so as to reduce the number of unwanted litters. Do your part by thinking of shelter and rescue organizations FIRST when contemplating adopting a new cat or kitten. Be serious about your commitment, realizing that it is for the life of your cat. Visit our website at schuylerhumane.org to meet our adoptable cats and kittens. HUMANE SOCIETY OF SCHUYLER COUNTY, INC.
