Fine Arts Day is May 12th.
Students will be experiencing eight different

Nurses Notes:
Woodlan PTO
Hello Woodlan Families,
The Woodlan PTO would like to take a moment to thank the Woodlan Elementary staff in
honor of Staff Appreciation week. They are here every day before school, after school, and some weekends
helping our little Woodlan Warriors. Thank for all your hard work and dedication!
Our biggest event this spring is here. It is time for the Spring Carnival. This is one of our
larger events and requires many people to make it a success. Part of that help this year is the Harlan Christian Youth Center and GLOW as they have volunteered to help the day of the Carnival. With their help, we
will have more and better bounce houses, a photo button booth, and new games. Another help was the
Woodlan High School shop class. They built us three new games this year. We now have Piggy Racing,
Frog Flinger, and a new Plink-O. This year though the biggest change to the Spring Carnival is the addition
of food trucks. We will be having Aunt Anne’s Pretzel, Kona Ice, and more. So please come out to enjoy the
festivities.
Over the next few week the PTO will be sending home many flyers. Please keep an eye out
for them. They have information about early ticket sales for carnival, volunteer opportunities, food truck prices, and more.
With the school year coming to an end, it is time once again for the PTO to discuss officers
for the 2016-2017 year. At our next meeting, on May 19th, we will be discussing who is coming back next
year and who would like to step down. Several have children headed to high school or schedule changes.
So, if you are interested in joining the PTO or want to know more about what we do please come. We meet
at 3:00, in the conference room, in the elementary office.
Upcoming Events for May:

Student Council News
Woodlan Elementary Student Council sponsored our first Earth Day –
Student Day of Caring Campus Clean-up on Friday, April 22, 2016. Student Council organized the clean-up zones around Woodlan Campus.
Each class, 3rd through 6th grade, then worked to pick up trash, sticks,
and debris. Great Job Woodlan Elementary!
Happy Arbor Day from Student
Council – Remember to plant a
tree on April 29th to help keep
our Earth healthy!
Red Maple seeds were sent home
to every student complements of student council.
We hope you enjoy your new tree for years to come
What are Body Systems?
Ms. Smith’s 4th grade class taught Mrs.
Snyder’s and Mrs. Preston’s first graders all about our body systems including the skeleton system, the muscular system, the respiratory system, the
nervous system, the digestive system, and the circulatory system. Each
group researched a specific system, becoming an expert. They discovered
what the system does, how it works, where it is located, what to do to keep
it healthy. After researching their system, each group shared what they
learned with our 1st grade students on March 18th.

Famous Hoosier
Wax Museum
The Famous Hoosier Wax Museum will be held on Wednesday, May
11, 2016 from 8:30 to 10:30 AM. Each student selected a famous
Hoosier that he or she was interested in researching.
With the assistance of Mrs. Miller’s 9th Grade English class to help
us with the initial research for this project, students took research
notes, wrote a research report, created a display board, and wrote a
short speech. Then during the Wax Museum, our “famous Hoosiers”
will come to life by dressing in character and interacting with our museum visitors. We hope that you can join us!

Woodlan Cafeteria/Lunchroom Reminders:
 If you ever have any questions or concerns about your child’s account, please call Darlene Hamilton, cafeteria manager, 446-0290, ext. 7411. You
may also view your child’s lunch activity via Parent Access on the EACS website .
 Parents and other visitors of students—we welcome you to eat breakfast or lunch with your child at anytime, but we need to know if you are coming ahead of time to plan accordingly. Please do so by calling in before 9:00 a.m. or send a note with your child. We also ask that you sign in and
wear a Visitor’s badge. Adult lunches are $2.40. As we are cashless system, we ask that you bring correct change for your lunch. You may use
your child’s lunch account to purchase your lunch. If you do not have correct change, we can deposit the rest of your money into your child’s lunch
account .
 Minimum deposits are $10.00 for each full pay student, $2.00 for a reduced student. If your child would like to purchase extras you need to deposit
money for that also. If your child doesn’t have enough money in their account we can drop the amount in the minus figure. The system only allows
us to drop the child’s account down to (-$5.00) After that we have to give them a Peanut Butter Jelly lunch. We appreciate your help in keeping
your child’s account up to date. You can view their account online.
 If your child is in K-3 please work with them at home to learn their student ID number to put into the system so our lines can run smoother.
 If you are having issues with your child’s lunch account being depleted too quickly, please check your Parent Access for what your child is choosing. You may opt to limit their purchases of ala cart items, please just send in a note with your preference or call.
 NO breakfast will be served on 2 or 3 hour delay days.
