Description
The 320 Independent Computer Interface (ICI) is a versatile,
microprocessor-based communication controller that allows
a computer to communicate and share data with any device
on the Local Instrument Link (LIL). Process and configuration
data can be requested from the LIL global database or a LIL
device, or sent directly from the computer to the device or
database. The Model 320 controls all data communications,
performs error checking, transfers the data between the
LIL and computer, and acknowledges commands sent by
the computer.
Because the Model 320 provides access to LIL data and
flexible communication with a computer, programs can access
information that fulfills specific needs and capabilities.
Once installed and connected to a computer and the LIL, the
Model 320 requires no further operator intervention or special
procedures for communication with the computer.
Using the Model 320 with an independent computer on
the LIL allows it to be used in a wide variety of applications,
such as:
Process monitoring and recording
Real-time and historical reporting
Loop accounting
Information management
Supervisory control
Configuration control and management
