Learning Environment We will be exploring various parts of our local area to find and investigate historical structures and settings. In addition to this we will also be setting up a ‘role play’ area where we will be working on context related problem solving. Computing • How can we use ICT to further our knowledge? Instructions Adventure stories Persuasive writing Music – Percussion, Rhythm and Notation. Miss Livingstone will be teaching us music this year. Initially, we will consider the impact and recreate the battle sounds of a marching army. We will improvise rhythms, using percussion instruments and use notation to record our pieces. In groups we will generate our own battle sounds and perform. • Who were the Mayans and where were they from? • What did the Mayans do for us? • What were the key elements of Mayan culture e.g. Religion, recreation etc Design and Technology Year 5 Feasts and festivals Class focus: The Mayans Art and Design • Autumnal observational drawing. • What mediums / colours did the Mayans use? • What were subjects of Mayan art? • Making Mayan border art. History – Mayans. Physical Education • Swimming – How can I be safe in the water? Linked with this the children will be focusing on improving water confidence and swimming technique. • What sports did the Mayans play? Are any of our sports derived from these sports? Maths (Using and Applying) In maths we will be developing our ability to problem solve – using RUCSAC to help us with this. Making representations of Mayan masks Foreign Languages - French This term we will be looking at expanding our knowledge of numbers, basic vocab (e.g. greetings / weather etc.) and animals. Science – Food chains / Space Geography - Question to intrigue • Where did the Mayans come from? • How different are the climate /topography of the countries that the Mayans originated from to the UK. (We will also be looking at trade). • What is a food chain? • How do our bodies use/ digest the food we eat? • Could we see different types of food chains in foreign countries? • What is space? • • What are the planets / What do we already know?
