Amazing 102.5 FM
informs, inspires
Houston has felt a void in gospel music since Praise 92.1
closed it’s doors. But now, a new radio station – complete
with one of the most popular figures from Praise, gospel
superstar Yolanda Adams – hopes to “give Houstonians
an alternative to their daily worship,” said Adams, host of
the Yolanda Adams Morning Show.
Amazing 102.5 FM – it’s call letters are KMAZ – hit
the airwaves last summer. Spearheaded by General
Manager Emilian White and Pastor Rudy Rasmus of St.
John’s United Methodist Church, the station was initially
launched to support Bread of Life, Inc., an organization
Rasmus created with his wife, Pastor Juanita Rasmus, in
response to the hunger he witnessed among the poor
and homeless in Houston.
“The Bread of Life has been feeding the homeless for
over 20 something years,” said White. “Through it’s
Community-Wide Food Fair and Senior Supplemental
Food Program, Bread of Life also distributes over 18 tons
of fresh food each week in two locations within the city.”
As a kid facing his own hardships in his hometown of
Cleveland, Ohio, White has always had an affinity for
helping the homeless. Amazing 102.5 FM helps him to
continue his goal of serving.
reach a lot of people,” said White, who has also worked as
a general sales manager for KCOH-AM, and an account
executive for KMJQ, MAJIC-102 FM.
“Our mission here at the station is to spread the word
about the issues facing not just Houstonians, but people
as a collective whole, while also playing good music that
inspires and empowers people,” White said.
Adams will be joined by comedian Marcus D. Wiley (who
worked with Adams on her original show), as well as other
personalities. White believes their talent and good spirit is
just what the station needs.
“Yolanda brings heart and soul and that something
listeners have been longing for,” White said. “And with
her popularity, and God–given talent, I know that she will
make radio do what it’s supposed to do in the first place,
and that’s to inform, encourage and serve people in the
community.”

Black Radio Solidarity Supports the Release
of the Inspirational Movie HIDDEN FIGURES Driving Souls To The Theaters Drives Film to #1
Spot Two Weeks In A Row
In December, Black Radio Solidarity (founded
by Sheryl Underwood) launched a massive
campaign to fill the theaters for the movie
HIDDEN FIGURES. The campaign, dubbed “Driving
Souls To The Theater,” encouraged sororities, fraternities,
individuals and groups to take young people to see this
inspiring film. The film depicts the untold story of three
African American Women who
excelled as mathematicians and
engineers who worked at NASA
and changed the course of the
Space Race.
the public’s desire for and support of inspiring, positive
messages on the big screen,” this according to Black
Radio Solidarity Day founder Sheryl Underwood (host of
Sheryl Underwood Radio, co-host of THE TALK on CBS,
entertainer and philanthropist). “We are thrilled at the
success of this movie and the impact that it has had on
us all. It is an outstanding production, from start to finish.”
The three real woman portrayed in
the movie, Katherine G. Johnson
(Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy
Vaughan (Octavia Spenser) and
Mary Jackson (Janelle Monae),
were all brilliant African-American
women and members of Alpha
Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Each
was a trailblazer and role model
for others to follow. “As a member
of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, it was
an honor to help make HIDDEN
FIGURES the #1 movie.”
The national release

The national release of HIDDEN
FIGURES on January 6 opened in
2,471 theaters, compared to 4,157
theaters for Rogue One: A Star
Wars Story. Early Sunday figures
during the opening weekend
reported that Rogue One was
going to be the number one
movie for the weekend, but, as
Janelle Monáe, one of the stars of
HIDDEN FIGURES, said “The force
was with us!” Although, snow on
the east coast kept some people
home Friday and Saturday, once the snow starting
melting people packed the theaters on Sunday, pushing
HIDDEN FIGURES into the top spot. The ball kept rolling,
keeping them in the #1 spot for two consecutive weeks.
“The success of films like HIDDEN FIGURES demonstrates

She adds, “Black Radio was able
to utilize our collective voice to
help spread the word and fill
theaters. This was a unified effort,
so congratulations to everyone
who posted, tweeted, called friends or drove people to
theaters. The ground-swell of grassroots support helped
push this film over the top in attendance.
A Star Wars Story.
This film has inspired millions of people across the
country, especially young girls who are now considering
futures in science, technology, engineering and math. Not to
mention the fact that this film, which featured three strong,
intelligent African American women as the main characters
and main actors, has broken down the confining thought
that African American women can not lead successful films
domestically and internationally.
Black Radio Solidarity thanks EVERYONE who packed the
theaters for this inspiring movie. Thank you to all of the
individuals, groups, sororities and fraternities who went alone
or in a groups; who went with friends or took children of all
ages to be empowered by this page from American History.
Underwood concludes, “This was an opportunity for people
all over the world to see Americans coming together to use
scholarship for the service of this great nation. Sisterhood

Sheryl Joins The George Lopez
Foundation’s Board of Directors In
December 2016
We are pleased to announce that Pack Rat Foundation For Education Founder and Sheryl Underwood Radio
namesake, Sheryl Underwood, is lending her experience and support to The George Lopez Foundation as its
newest member of the Board of Directors.
Founder, honorary chairperson, and talented entertainer, George Lopez and his wife Linda Smalls extended
the board invitation. They look forward to working with Sheryl as a member of the board and feel that
Sheryl’s leadership experience and active involvement in the community will be an asset to the organization.
Sheryl’s commitment to the cause of The George Lopez Foundation is a personal one. Sheryl’s sister Frankie
experienced kidney failure. It was through that experience that she saw, first-hand, the compassionate heart
of George Lopez toward those living with kidney disease and the impact of kidney failure. She says this of
George Lopez, “Because of your willingness to share your personal experience with kidney disease, and the
comfort and wisdom you provided me, I can honestly say that I could not have survived that experience
without “George Lopez.”
The mission of the George Lopez Foundation is to create positive, permanent change for underprivileged
children, adults and military families confronting challenges in education and health. The foundation also
works to increase community awareness about kidney disease and organ donation.

Commends Octavia Spencer

Recently, the hosts of “The Talk” talked about Octavia Spencer
who bought out a Los Angeles movie theater so families in
need could watch her movie “Hidden Figures.” Spencer said
that her mom would not have been able to afford to bring her
