U4L1 Distance versus Time Graphs.notebook December 06, 2016 Lesson 1: Distance vs. Time Graphs Relation: A description of how 2 variables are connected. Linear Relation: A relation between 2 variables that forms a straight line when graphed. Nonlinear Relation: A relation between 2 variables that forms a smooth curve, for example, when graphed. When the motion of an object is studied, there is a relationship between the distance travelled by the object and the time during which the object travelled. This relationship can be recorded and shown using a distance vs. time graph. 1 U4L1 Distance versus Time Graphs.notebook December 06, 2016 Demostration Using the CBR Ranger 1) Starting 1 m away, the student walks slowly away from the CBR at a constant speed. 2) Starting 5 m away, the student slowly walks toward the CBR at a constant speed. 2 U4L1 Distance versus Time Graphs.notebook December 06, 2016 Demostration Using the CBR Ranger 3) Starting 5 m away, the student walks slowly towards the CBR at a constant speed, stops for 2 seconds, and then slowly backs away at the same constant speed. 4) Starting 1 m away, the student walks very slowly away from the CBR at a constant speed, pauses for 2 seconds, then walks faster away.. 3 U4L1 Distance versus Time Graphs.notebook December 06, 2016 Demostration Using the CBR Ranger 5) Starting 1 m away, the student accelerates away from the CBR, pauses, then accelerates back. 6) Starting 7 m away, the student runs fast then when the CBR is started decelerates. 4 U4L1 Distance versus Time Graphs.notebook December 06, 2016 CONCLUSIONS: Moving AWAY is a line or curve moving up and to the right. Moving TOWARDS is a line or curve moving down and to the right. Constant speed is a straight line that is not horizontal. Stopping is a horizontal line. The faster the speed the steeper the line. Accelerating is a curve that becomes steeper as it moves to the right. Decelerating is a curve that becomes flatter as it moves to the right. 5 U4L1 Distance versus Time Graphs.notebook December 06, 2016 Assigned Work pg. 91 # C1, 1, 3, 4, 5, 7 6
