Ngong Ping 360 Energizes the City with Kung Fu
“360 Martial Arts Extravaganza” Shines this Summer
Watch out for Shaolin Kung Fu versus Jeet Kune Do
(Hong Kong, 3 July 2013) Ngong Ping 360 kicks off Kung Fu mania in Hong Kong this
summer with the “360 Martial Arts Extravaganza”, which starts from today until 1
September.
As part of the Extravaganza, Ngong Ping 360 has invited the popular Shaolin Kung Fu
masters back to town to showcase their daring stunts and Kung Fu moves at Ngong Ping
Village. And as a tribute to martial arts legend Bruce Lee on the 40th commemorative
anniversary of his death, “360 Martial Arts Extravaganza” will also feature ‘Jeet Kune Do’,
the martial arts style he founded.
“360 Martial Arts Extravaganza” is one of the highlight events of “Vibrant Hong Kong”,
which is part of the “Hong Kong: Our Home” Campaign. Special guests at today’s
grand opening ceremony included Mr. Wilson Shao, Managing Director, Ngong Ping 360
Limited; Ms. Stella Kwan, Head of Commerce and Marketing, Ngong Ping 360 Limited, Dr.
Peter Lam Kin-ngok, Chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board; Ms. Daisy Lui, Deputy
Executive Director of the Hong Kong Tourism Board; Mr. Anthony Li Ping-wai, J.P., District
Officer, Islands District Office, Home Affairs Department; Mr. Nelson Shum Hiu-wai, Chief
Inspector of Police, Divisional Commander of Lantau North Division, Ms. JuJu Chan, Hong
Kong representative of The 18th International Taekwon-Do Federation World
Championships as well as some martial arts heavyweights.
Chairman of Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) Dr. Peter Lam said, “To many visitors,
martial arts hold strong appeal. I believe the showcase of Jeet Kune Do in the martial arts
performances by Ngong Ping 360, in addition to Shaolin Kung Fu, will give visitors a brand
new experience this summer. The HKTB is delighted to see that Ngong Ping 360, a key
attraction in Hong Kong, continues to come up with unique, creative programmes and
activities to enrich visitors’ experience. We are also pleased to partner with Ngong Ping
360, as well as other event organizers and attractions, to promote Hong Kong’s wide
array of summer offerings and encourage visitors to travel and spend in the city.”
“We believe that martial arts embody the spirit of advocating peace, well-being, self
improvement and upholding justice. The Island District Council welcomes the Ngong
Ping 360 annual martial arts extravaganza, because it helps to introduce the many
different forms of martial arts to local and overseas guests, as well creating a unique
festive atmosphere on Lantau Island. We are so glad to know that “360 Martial Arts
Extravaganza” is one of the highlight events of “Vibrant Hong Kong” in the “Hong Kong:
Our Home” Campaign. While watching the martial arts performances, guests can also
practice some basic steps, which not only benefit physical fitness, but also enhance

positive energy,” said Mr. Anthony Li Ping-wai, J.P., District Officer, Islands District Office,
Home Affairs Department.
“People have always associated Ngong Ping 360 with Kung Fu because martial arts
events are our centerpiece event over the last couple of years. This is the sixth year we
are hosting the “360 Martial Arts Extravaganza”, and we hope lovers of martial arts from
all over the world will come and view the breathtaking Kung Fu performances. Chinese
martial arts are well-known and have a well-established tradition; those who practice
Kung Fu could through this exercise to achieve greater health and well-being. This year
there will be a demonstration match between Shaolin Kung Fu and Jeet Kune Do which
is sure to create a memorable and eye-opening show for the guests,” said Ms. Stella
Kwan, Head of Commerce & Marketing, Ngong Ping 360 Limited.
At today’s grand ceremony, Hong Kong Wushu Union, which promotes the
development of local martial arts, led a group of talented athletes to kick start the
performance by showcasing different types of martial arts, including Wing Chun, Long
Fist, Tai Chi and Tai Chi Sword, as well as group performances of Broadsword Play and
Spear Play. This was followed by a performance from the Shaolin Kung Fu masters who
presented the “Xiangxing Fist”, “Damo Sword” and “Eighteen kinds of weapons”, etc.
Jeet Kune Do masters also showcased their flexible fist and leg moves, which gave the
guests a fantastic opportunity to experience the speed and power of each move.
Towards the end of the show, JuJu Chan who aims to become the “female version of
Bruce Lee” showcased her talent in Jeet Kune Do, which became the highlight of the
entire performance, deserving of a huge round of applause.
“I am very honoured to take part in today’s “360 Martial Arts Extravaganza Grand
Ceremony”. This is very inspiring to me as I am preparing to participate in the 18th
International Taekwon-Do Federation World Championships in Bulgaria soon. When I saw
the efforts of the Shaolin Kung Fu masters, I am motivated to put more effort into
practicing. I want to encourage more Hong Kong people to participate in healthy
activities such as this, which is why I have filmed a promotional video with a Shaolin Kung
Fu master to raise awareness and encourage the public to learn more about the spirit of
Hong Kong and Chinese martial arts,” said Ms. JuJu Chan, Hong Kong representative of
The 18th International Taekwon-Do Federation World Championships.
During the two-month event, Ngong Ping 360 has tailored other programs around the
theme of Shaolin and Jeet Kune Do. Details as below table:
