Dare to dream … and make it happen

‘Dare to dream …
and make it happen’
NCDO’s campaign on the
Millennium Development Goals
By Selma Penseel
OECD, Paris
March 3rd – 4th
Research
• 20% Dutch public says to have heard of
the MDG’s
• Public appreciates MDG’s, especially
reducing poverty, stopping aids and
providing safe drinking water
• Public believes goals won’t be achieved
• With exception of gender equality and all
children to school
OECD, Paris
March 3rd – 4th
Further research
Showed that people want to know more about:
• MDG’s
• results of MDG’s
• how countries will improve their policies if goals
are not being achieved.
• achievements of some countries
MDGs fit well in a trend of government showing
goals and results
OECD, Paris
March 3rd – 4th
Therefore NCDO:
• Started an information campaign about the
MDG’s (goal)
• Focus on news followers and opinion
leaders (target group)
• Posters, radio spots, banners, website
with famous Dutch (means)
• Emphasis on what people can do (link to
website with activities)

Message of the campaign
‘In 1984 Nelson Mandela had already been
in prison for 20 years. Nobody dared to
dream that 10 years later Nelson Mandela
would be the first black president of South
Africa. But it happened.
Within ten years all children in the world
access to education? It is possible.
All children to school. Dare to dream and
make it happen.’
