Subject Leader of Drama
The School
St Aloysius’ College is a Roman Catholic Jesuit school of 1,000 young people aged between
3 and 18 years. The College has an outstanding reputation in the West of Scotland. Founded
in 1859, the school has a distinguished history in the Jesuit tradition and constantly seeks to
renew itself to provide the best possible education for young people ‘in the spirit, from the
heart, practically’ (Jerome Nadal SJ).
The school is a happy and strong community and it is a good place to work. Relations
between staff, pupils and parents are very positive. The examination results have been
consistently good and throughout their time at St Aloysius’, pupils are invited to develop
their God-given gifts and talents to the full and put them at the service of others.
Performing Arts
The person appointed will be the Subject Leader of Drama in the Senior School, both of
which are located on the same site in the city centre of Glasgow. He/she will work within the
Performing Arts Department and will be line managed by the Director of Performing Arts.
Pupils are presented for National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher.
Person Specification and Competencies
The successful candidate is likely to possess the following :










A drama degree or equivalent qualification.
Qualified teacher status or eligibility to be recognised as a qualified teacher by the
General Teaching Council of Scotland.
A proven record of success in pursuing drama so as to be a role model for staff and
students.
Proven success as a teacher that demonstrates an ability to inspire others and achieve
artistic performance of the highest quality.
An excellent record of examination success from certificated classes; experience of
Scottish qualifications would be helpful but is not essential.
The vision and drive to enable drama at the College to have an excellent reputation.
Collegiate working practices that encourage staff to contribute and take responsibility.
Interpersonal skills that demonstrate an ability to engage others.
Administrative, communication and IT skills, together with knowledge of technology
within the Arts.
The ability to work under pressure, with flexibility and a sense of humour.
An understanding of the religious nature of the school and how the performing arts
can contribute to religious, moral, spiritual and faith development. The person
appointed need not be a Roman Catholic.
