Overview: Today’s fast paced, high-tech computer world demands near vision clarity for all types of workplace objects positioned
from 1.5 feet up to 10 feet. Computer work also calls for a sound optical solution that helps eliminate computer vision syndrome
and its associated problems. Shamir Office, which is an Intermediate Progressive, does just that because it is based on Shamir
Optical’s Eye Point Technology.™ Through this technology, patients enjoy correct and accurate optical power distribution. The
Shamir Office is well suited for any person working or operating in the mid and near vision zone. It’s not limited to computer
operators but is a life style lens that can be utilized for a variety of occupations. The Shamir Office can also provide limited
distance vision.
Design: The Shamir Office is available in 4 different dynamic power options: 0.75, 1.25, 1.75, 2.25. The dynamic power is the
total amount of power that the total reading prescription is reduced. The reading power decreases gradually as you move up the
lens and then stabilizes in power. A specific dynamic power option is selected based on the add power (see power options
selection chart on reverse side). Example: Rx: Plano/add +2.00. This Rx would use the 1.75 dynamic power option. The
total add power of +2.00 will decrease gradually as you move up the lens and then stabilize at +0.25 (1.75 less) 8mm above
the fitting cross. At the fitting cross the near power is reduced by approximately 50% of the dynamic power or in this
example, 1.12. Using this 1.75 option will give the patient the intermediate required and distance vision to about 13 feet because
the Rx at the top of the lens is +0.25. Other lens design information: the fitting cross is decentered 2.5mm from the geometric
center. The top of the near circle is located 8mm below the fitting cross and inset 2mm from the fitting cross. The center of the
reading circle is 4mm below the reading circle top, 12mm below the fitting cross.
How to Order and Fit: To order Shamir Office, provide our lab with the distance Rx, add power, height to the center of the pupil
and distance monocular p.d.’s. Make sure the selected frame has a minimum of 13mm from the pupil to the upper rim of the
frame and 16mm from the pupil to the bottom of the frame. The minimum B measurement should be 29mm. When verifying the
Rx, check the near reading prescription only under the “arc.” If the near reading Rx is correct, then the lens will perform optically
in all zones up to the maximum distance for that particular Rx. It is not possible to verify the lens in any other zone than the near.
If there is prescribed prism in the Rx, this gets checked at the fitting cross. When fitting the patient, remember to advise them to
look through the upper most sector of the lens to see in the distance.
