SettingupyourfirstuseofAltiumi10
• Startwithanewcartridge
• Openfromtheairtightsilverbagandscrewintothetopofthedevice
• Addthemouthpiecefirmlyintothetopofthedevice
• Removeallfoamdiscsfromwithinthedevice
• Then,add4(four)foamdiscstostartthecalibrationprocess
• Insertthefoamfromthebottomofthedevice
• Ensurethatthefoamsitsnexttothecartridgeatthetopofthedevice
• Unscrewthebasesectionandthentakethebaseplateout
• Removetheplugsinthebaseplatesothatthereare4(four)clearholes
• Pushthebaseplatebackupintothedevicesothatitsitsnexttothelastinsertedfoamdisc
• Screwthebottomsectionofthedevicebackon
• Thereshouldnowbearecessedareafromthebottomofthedevicetothebaseplate,whichisnowupwithin
thedevice
• You’renowreadytogetstartedstraightawayonyourfirstAltiumi10session
Aftersetup(above),usingAltiumi10forthefirsttime…
• Tostartwith,youwillonlyneed:(1)thedevice,(2)noseclip(3)theoximeter(4)awatchtocountinseconds
(TheAltiumi10appcomeslater;bepatient!)
• Placethenosecliponyournose
• Turnontheoximeter,andplaceitonyourindexormiddlefinger
• WaitforthePI%ontheoximetertostabiliseabove4%
• Ifyouareinacoldenvironment,orifyourfingersarecold,thenmakesureyouwarmup!
• Awarmbody(andwarmfingers)shouldgiveaPI%above4%foranaccuratereadingfromtheoximeter
• WithaPI%of4%orgreatertheSPO2readingwillshowaround99%[sealevel]
• Keepyourarmrelaxedandstraight(notbent)sothatthereisagoodbloodflowfortheoximetertogaina
reading
• Next,placeyourmouthfullyoverthemouthpieceandstartbreathingthroughyourmouthintothedevicein
short,shallowbreaths
• Withyourfirstbreath,startyourstopwatchorcountthesecondsthatelapseasyoubreathethroughthe
device
• Takegentle,shallowbreathstostartwith–asifsippingthroughastraw
• Keepgoing…Breathegentlyasifusingthetopthirdofyourlungs(upin3secondsdownin3seconds)
• After1to2minutesyourSPO2readingshouldstarttodropfrom99%downtowards90%
• Continuewithslowgentlebreaths:3secondsinhaleandexhale
• At90%to85%SPO2,takeslightlydeeperbreathsasifusingthetophalfofyourlungs
• ForyourfirstsessionaimtomaintainSPO2ataround85%

Calibration
• IfyoufindthatyourSPO2doesn’tdropinyourfirst6-minutesession,youcanaddextrafoamcartridgestwo
atatime.(Thishelpsyoucalibratethedevicetoyourlungcapacity.)
• Morefoam=morechambervolumeinAltiumi10=largerlungcapacity
• Youcanalsoplugonemoreholeifrequiredsothattherearethreeholesopeninthedevice.(Formostusers,
less than three holes may restrict the flow of air when breathing through Altium i10, and may feel
uncomfortable.)
• ForyourfirstfewusesofAltiumi10,concentrateonstabilisingyourSPO2ataround82-85%.Rememberthat
yourPI%shouldbeabove4%atalltimesforanaccuratereading.So,keepyourselfwarm,andyourarm
relaxed!
• AfterpracticeyoushouldbeabletoregulateyourbreathingtocontroltheSPO2%
• Controlling your breathing is similar to controlling power/watts when on a bike; there will be some
fluctuationinpowerattheoutset,butgreaterlevelsofcontrolcomewithabitofpractice!

• TheappcanbeusedwhenyouhavefoundtheoptimumnumberoffoamdiscsandyourSPO2dropsafter1
to2minutes
• SimplydownloadtheapptoyouriPhoneoriPodTouch(Androidappindevelopmentandonitswaysoon!)
• Runthroughtheset-upontheapp,whichwillconnectautomaticallyviaBluetoothtotheoximeter
• Theappwillactasatimerandwilltrackyoursimulatedaltitude,givingyouAltipointsattheendofeach1
hoursession
Cartridge
• Thecartridgeshouldlastfor2x1hoursessions
• Aftereach1hoursessionyoucanremovethecartridgeandstoreinanair-tightbagbeforeitsseconduse
• YoumayfindthatonaseconduseofacartridgethatitgetshardertoloweryourSPO2towardstheendof
thehour.(Ifnecessary,addafurtherfoamdiscforthislastuseofacartridge.)
• Aftertheseconduse,cartridgeswillbelesseffectiveanditwillbehardertoloweryourSPO2.Pleasedispose
ofcartridgesinhouseholdwaste.Arecyclingoptionforusedcartridgesisbeingexploredin2017andwillbe
communicatedtoallAltiumi10customerswhenit’sready.
