ABSTRACT
In the context of Small States in the international system, Caribbean states have
shown resilience and resourcefulness in crafting their foreign policies as they seek
to reposition themselves in the international system. Econom ic development has
consistently been the goal behind the foreign policy strategies of Caribbean states
and this is also the case, in their relationships with China and Japan. China and
Japan’s motivations towards the region are related to the pursuit of their economic
development, political security and global status.
