V. Teaching Philosophy
A continuous dynamic dialogue in the classroom is the essential for the exchange
of ideas and ideas the substance of that dialogue. As an instructor I will help my students
acquire the knowledge required for an adequate understanding of the material and skills
needed for scholarly literary analysis, adequate synthesis, and creative thinking.
I understand it is essential to consider the different learning styles represented in
each classroom. There should be clearly stated expectations and goals. Testing should
be timely and grading clear and fair. I will be available to my students inside and outside
the classroom. From my own experience I understand the importance of mentoring on
many levels and I will work extensively with the student’s on their writing and solicit and
accept feedback.
Michael Holquist in Dialogism: Bakhtin and his World says, “Dialogue always
implies the simultaneous existence of manifold possibilities.” I will provide a space
where students can explore those “manifold possibilities.”
