DAVCO BONDING AGENT
STYRENE BUTADIENE LATEX
GENERAL DESCRIPTIONS
Davco Bonding Agent is a Styrene / Butadiene Latex
specifically designed for use in cement mortars. Davco
Bonding Agent modified mortars exhibit greatly
improved bond, tensile and flexural strength and
durability. Davco Bonding Agent contains an antifoam
and specific additives to aid workability. Davco
Bonding Agent may be added at levels of 6 to 12% ( dry
Latex on cement) for mortars and up to 20% for high
performance use.

Instruction For Use
STYRENE/BUTADIENE LATEX ADMIXTURE FOR
MORTAR AND CONCRETE
• As an admixture in mortars or concrete to improve
resistance to deterioration caused by chloride
penetration, carbonation and chemical corrosion.
• As an admixture in mortars or concrete to improve
resistance to moisture penetration and cracking.
• As an admixture to increase the adhesion strength of
mortars used as a tile adhesion or patching material.
• As an admixture in mortars or concrete to improve
workability and reduce shrinkage and concrete bleed.
• As an admixture in mortars to increase abrasion
resistance.
• As an admixture in gunite mortars to improve
adhesion to substrates, resistance to water permeation
and to give a more flexible sprayed surface not prone
to cracking.
WEATHERPROOF BONDING, COPINGS AND TILES
Surface should be clean, sound and free of oil or loose
materials which would be detrimental to a good bond.
Crumbly or otherwise unsound patches should be
removed and the surface made good. All surface should be
washed free of dust and thoroughly dampened before the
application of the recommended primer coat. Primer
should be applied to the substrate surface and to the
bonding surface of the tile, etc. Whilst the primer coats are
still wet, bed the tiles onto the LMC mortar. Vertical
applications will require support.

Approximately 10 litres of water as Davco Bonding
Agent has a conquerable plasticising action, do not add
full quantity of water until mixing of ingredients is
complete.
Note: For increased water resistance, the level of Davco
Bonding Agent addition may be increased to as much as
20 litres, however, the volume of water addition must be
reduced accordingly.
GENERAL PURPOSE AND WATERPROOF
WALL RENDERINGS
The wall surface must be free from all loose and crumbly
material. Ensure that all concrete, brick or similar
surfaces are in sound and clean condition. It is usually
sufficient that the surfaces are prepared using a wire
brush to remove old paint and dusty patches. Holes and
damaged areas must be made good with Latex Modified
Mortar and allowed to dry. The surface should then be
washed or hosed to remove dust. It is recommended that
a priming coat is applied as previously described.
The thickness of LMC renderings should be restricted to
about 7mm for each coat or sagging of the coating may
occur. Multicoats may however be applied in relatively
quick succession – typically 1-2 hours. It is only
necessary to allow each coat to set off adequately to
receive the subsequent layer. If the main purpose of the
renderings is to achieve water resistance, it is
recommended that the concentration of Davco Bonding
Agent Latex is increased to a level of 30-40 parts per 100
of cement.

Davco Bonding Agent
The application of a priming coat is normally
recommended to obtain maximum adhesion to the
substrates. The prepared surface should be thoroughly
dampened with water but any free standing water
should be removed. A primer consisting of 1 part
Portland Cement, 1 part sand and 1 part of Davco
Bonding Agent by volume should be vigorously
worked onto the surface with a brush or stiff broom.
The topping must be applied to the final primer coat
whilst the latter is still in a wet condition.
Alternatively paint neat or diluted latex onto the
prepared surface allowing the latex to be absorbed. the
concrete paste or mortar can then be worked into the
wet surface.
RAW MATERIALS
Water:
Clean water. The amount of water
required in application formulations will
vary according to the mix being
considered and the moisture and
gradation of the sand use in the mix.
Water needs to be gauged accurately and
added sparingly to achieve the required
plasticity of mix.
Aggregate: Clean sand, free from excessive fines
should always be used in LMC Systems.
The sand should have a good particle size
gradation. The moisture content of the
sand used in LMC compositions is
important saturated sand may make the
LMC mixes too wet even at the lowest
recommended latex dosage levels and
with out addition of the water. Such sand
must be allowed to drain or lose moisture
before being used in such systems.
Packing:

20 litres pail
Approximately 10 litres of water, but as Davco Bonding
Agent has a considerable plasticising action do not add
full quantity of water until mixing of ingredients is
complete.
