I share it with you.
This is a story of a young man who woke up one morning and
asked his mother, “Mom, what if there were no black people in the world?”
Well, he soon found out  When he went into his room to comb his hair – he couldn’t

 He wanted to put on his shoes – he couldn’t
- Jan E. Matzellinger invented the shoe lacing machine
 His clothes were wrinkled – he couldn’t iron them

Our Half day school schedule is 8:20 am to 11:35 am. Early Dismissal
Days dismiss at 1:40 p.m..
LOST AND FOUND
The first bell rings at 8:15 am and school begins promptly at 8:20 am.
Every minute of Instruction is precious! Your child depends on you to
give them every advantage in life. Being on time is crucial to their
success now and in their future.
If possible, please, label your
child’s clothes. You can use a
permanent marker and write the
last name right on the inside label.
Grades K-2 will enter in the front office doors off Raven Street.
Grades 3-5 will enter on the south side of the building off the parking lot
Students are to wait outside until they are let into the vestibule at 8:15
where teachers will pick them up and escort them to their classrooms.
This will allow us to return coats,
jackets, sweaters, pants, gloves,
boots, etc. Each year we give away
bags full of unclaimed clothing and
personal items. Please check the
lost and found located in the
hallway outside of
Ms. Hanenkamp’s room
For the safety of the children, please enter and exit the parking areas
with extreme caution. There is no parking in the circle drives. You must
drop your child off and continue on. Always have your child exit the
passenger side of your car and not walk around the car. When there is
a car stopped in front of you letting students out, do not drive around
the car. We also request that students who ride their bikes to school
get off and walk their bike when on school property. Together we can
make our arrivals and dismissals safe and efficient for all.
All who arrive after 8:20 am must enter through the front office doors
located off Raven Street.
Visitors
Any visitors to the building MUST go directly to the main office. NO
Visitor shall go directly to a classroom without checking in at the
office first. If a parent/guardian would like to visit their child’s
classroom, they must pre-arrange a day and time with the classroom
teacher at least 24 hours in advance. If you want to stay in class, you
must fill out a volunteer form which can be found in the office
which must be approved by our Administration Building before you
may do so. Thank you for your co-operation in keeping our students
safe.

Changes in Address and
Phone Numbers
Throughout the year, you may
change your phone number, email
address, or you may move. It is
important that these changes are
communicated to the school office.
In the event of an emergency, it is
important we have your current
phone number so we can contact
you. In addition, the number we
have on file is the same one that is
called with notifications such as
school closures due to weather.
Address changes are also needed
so that you receive information
mailed home in a timely manner.
ILLNESS
Students who have a temperature
of 100* or more are not permitted
to attend school. They may return
24 hrs after the fever is gone and
they have been fever free without
the aid of medication.
Pink eye is contagious. Children
diagnosed with pink eye must be
on antibiotic eye drops for at least
24 hrs before returning to school.
Outdoor Fun for Winter
Fun Activities for the
Written By Melissa Dominick – Koepsell Physical Education Teacher
Now that the weather is cold and snowy sometimes many people would prefer to
sit inside in front of the fire staying warm, but it is just as important to stay physically
active. It might even be more important to be active with the flu season being as bad
as it is. Remember the more active you and your children are the less likely you are to
get sick, illnesses don’t tend to last as long, you feel happier (even though we all want
to see the sun again), you are more productive and it is fun! Here are some outdoor,
as well as some indoor activities for you and your family to participate in together to be
active for 60 minutes a day.
1. Go for a hike, walk, or jog around the neighborhood or at a local park
in the snow
2. Go sledding at a nearby hill
3. Build a snow fort or a snowman
4. Have a snowball throwing contest (stay away from windows)
5. Help shovel snow (make sure you are in good health and lift with your legs,
not your back)
6. Go speed walking at a local indoor mall
7. Do an exercise video or turn on some music and dance
8. Go ice skating on a lake or pond (make sure ice is frozen) for free or at
Campus Martius (outdoors) or Civic Arena (indoors) here in St. Clair
Shores (fees involved)
9. Go roller skating at Great Skate in Roseville (fee involved)
10. Go snowshoeing, cross country or downhill skiing
(fee usually involved unless you own your equipment)

MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.
“I have a dream that my four little children
will one day live in a nation where they will not be
judged by the color of their skin, but by the content
of their character.”
On Monday, January 16th, read one of the quotes below with your
child and discuss what it means.
Keeping the dream of Martin Luther King Jr. alive today is his true
legacy.
 “Intelligence plus character-that is the goal of a true education.”
 “Forgiveness is not an occasional act, it is a constant attitude.”
 “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole
staircase”
 “The quality, not the longevity of one’s life is what is important.”
 “Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance
and conscientious stupidity.”
 “Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a
friend.
 “If we do an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, we will be a blind
and toothless nation.”
 “Free at last, Free at last, thank God almighty, we are free at last.”
