Expressive Arts for ASDAN Pupils Last term, Mr Richards‟ Year 8

Expressive Arts for ASDAN Pupils
Last term, Mr Richards‟ Year 8 ASDAN group followed an Expressive Arts
module. As well as creating PowerPoint presentations on their artistic heroes,
and writing poems based on them, part of their course required them to
interview somebody who makes a living from a creative activity.
On 21 July, award winning West End musical leading lady Caroline Sheen
paid a special visit to Maiden Erlegh School to be interviewed by the group.
Currently starring as Fantine in “Les Miserables” at London‟s Queens Theatre,
she recently played Mary Poppins on the North American tour! She even won
a prestigious award for her “practically perfect” performance – the „Helen
Hayes Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a non-resident production!”
The, then, Year 8s were very interested in finding out about her life and
career, her album “Raise The Curtain,” and all were fascinated to hear tales of
famous people she has met as an actress, including Barbara Windsor,
Michelle Obama and, not forgetting, the Queen!
Caroline was very impressed by the questions the pupils asked, and
commented on how well behaved the group were. Indeed, the pupils were
excellent ambassadors for our school.
