STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS 2015-16
MAXIM, Xavier Institute of Management Bhubaneswar received the Certificate of Appreciation for
organizing the Market Research and Citizen engagement Program conducted by BMC. Our
city Bhubaneswar has been declared as the winner of the Smart City challenge held by the government. It
beat 97 other cities to make it to the top 20 cities of the country for this project. These cities will be developed
to have basic infrastructure through assured water and power supply, sanitation and solid waste management,
efficient urban mobility and public transport, IT connectivity, e-governance and citizen participation.
MAXIM had the great opportunity of being a part of this unique experience. They were given the task for
conducting market research on mobility solutions and create citizen engagement to boost the social media
activity of Smart City Bhubaneswar page. This was held from 31st Oct- 10th November across 18 locations in
the city with a team of 120 volunteers. Their work was covered widely by various forms of media and was
highly appreciated.
We would like to thank each and every one from the XIMB community who helped them achieve this task. The
government has already undertaken various measures like the Rahagiri day every Sunday based on their
analysis from the research. Many such solutions will be implemented soon which will help make our city a
better and smarter city in the coming years.

Vivek Balachander S, Abha Mahapatra, Biswabhusan Samantrayof MBA-Sustainability
Management have won the Wipro earthian award. This competition had two parts:(A) campus
foot printing exercise and (B) waste management for urban India. They have prepared a
comprehensive plan to manage municipal solid waste generated in Bhubaneswar city.
Wipro earthian contest aims at building institutional capability in the area of sustainability in
education on a long term basis. The winners will receive cash award of Rs.150000 (Rs.75000 to
the students and Rs.75,000 to the Institute). This award also includescontinuous engagement in
the area of sustainability and education with students and winning institute for next 3 years.
Trophy and Certificates will be given to XUB and the winning students respectively.

Ms. Kavyashree Madhusudan Hegde – a student MBA-HRM of XSHRM (2nd year) is one of the 3 top winners of
the "NHRDN - Prof Ram Charan Young HR Icon Awards 2015 for Professionals and Students".
Our heartiest congratulations! She has proven her mettle across the multiple rounds of assessment and displayed
the aptitude, attitude and skills critical to a budding HR leader. We hope that the awards journey has been an
insightful and enriching experience for her. The award is a testimony to Kavyashree's brilliance and competence. It
also provides testimony to the exposure that XSHRM provides to budding managers, creating a culture of academic
excellence and extra-curricular involvement, which has enabled her to shine among over 210 organizations.

A contest was organized by the BMC to draft a vision statement for
Bhubaneswar to make it a sustainable and inclusive city. The contest had received more than 500 vision
statements through online and offline submissions.
A jury panel comprising India Representative to Bernard van Leer Foundation Dharitri Patnaik, Regional
Manager of Infosys Lt. Commander Biswajit Nayak, Director of KIIT University, Prof S. S Ray and
journalist Bibhuti Barik evaluated the entries.
Ms. Anupam Priya of XIMB (MBA 2014-16 Batch) won the contest. Anupam stressed on clean, safe,
sustainable and green environment in the city where all communities can live in harmony and preserve
their distinct identities.

Ms. Anupam Priya on creating a Vision statement for the future smart city of
More than one hundred XIMB and XUB students actively participated in the Smart City initiative of BMC
& BDA.
More than 30 students joined as champions to spearhead the smart city contest championing the cause
of Bhubaneswar and make it win the contest. We thank Ms. Soumya Panda (MBA-HRM) and Mr. Rohit
Rati (MBA-RM) for taking the leadership as coordinators.
YIFA Awards:
On March 5th, 2015, the finale of the Youth Incorporated Festival Awards 2015 took place in Mumbai
where the best college fests were judged in 12 different categories. Xavier Institute of Management
(XIMB) was nominated in 5 categories, won in 2 and had a runners-up award in one category. It was a
matter of pride that XIMB’s annual management fest, Xpressions bagged 3 prizes amongst hundreds of
entries from B-schools all over the country which include premier B-school fests like Mood Indigo and
Waves.
XIMB participated in several categories, which were, The Social Meter, Inno-vent, Pause for a cause,
Theming Beauty, The hangover, Lasting impressions, Star struck, Crew code, Game on and Fest of the
Year. The entries in the winning categories were as follows:
1) Pause for a Cause :XIMB has always been one for social causes. We believe in giving back to society
more than what we receive. Our fest Xpressions, serves as not only a platform to bring out the
cultural side of the students but also the benevolent social side of each and every one of us. XIMB
conducted 5 events to make a difference to the society which were,
X-Athon: This was the first of its kind Marathon hosted by XIMB. The money raised through the
event was sent to an organisation, Smile foundation which works on the promotion of education
and provides adequate healthcare to those in need.
X-Pallavan: As a prelude of Xpressions’14,XIMB held a mass tree plantation program X-Enable.
Prayaag: The event staged performers from Ability Unlimited Foundation, a Delhi based foundation
that works with differently-abled citizens.
Spardha: It is a social entrepreneurship competition which tests the participants through a series of
stages encompassing sectors which is influenced by rural scenarios of India. A write-up was
submitted depicting all these social initiatives undertaken under Xpressions.
2) Theming Beauty
A set of 12 HD pictures highlighting the campus décor during Xpressions was submitted. The various
aspects of campus decoration pertaining to the Xpressions theme ‘Metamorphosis’ were captured
in these 12 photos
3) Lasting Impressions
Xpressions 2014 was brought to the table with the theme of ‘Metamorphosis’. The reason for
choosing this theme was the continuous process of transformation towards excellence that XIMB
has been witnessing for the past 27 years. This journey of excellence has seen a significant milestone
with the launch of the Xavier University Bhubaneswar. The image demonstrates a blend of art with
liberty, change with perfection and joy with life. The image rightfully speaks "break your shackles,
and spread your wings".
