Dinner includes a spaghetti plate with salad, garlic bread, dessert, and drink. Tickets can be purchased for $5 a plate or $15 for a family (2 adults, 4 kids). Boats maximum size is 8’ long by 4’ wide. Boat Classes Class I= Pre-Build. Boats will be made at your home before the event. Class II= Speed Build. Boats will be made from 2-3 pm at the YMCA on race day. The Y will supply you with 1 roll of duct tape and some corrugated cardboard. Boats may only be propelled by canoe paddles, kayak paddles, brooms or kitchen spoons. (The Y has a few available for races). Rules for all boats: 1. The entire hull, superstructure and seating of all boats must be made entirely of corrugated cardboard. 2. Only corrugated cardboard is allowed. Any thickness is permitted. If it’s not corrugated, don’t use it. Carpet tubes, wrapping paper tubes, and barrels are not allowed. 3. Decorations may include colored copy paper, permanent markers (ie: Sharpies) - NO PAINT and NO PAPER THAT BLEEDS COLOR (ie: tissue paper, crepe paper, streamers). 4. The boat may not be wrapped in plastic, shrink wrap, or anything else of the like. 5. Absolutely NO use of the following items: tar-based substances, two-part varnishes, fiberglass resin, epoxy glue, any other two-part substances, or corrugated cardboard that’s bonded to any material. Please remember: Corrugated cardboard and duct tape only. 6. Your boat must be free of sharp edges, pointy objects or anything else that could be a menace. 7. The boat’s passenger area must not be permanently enclosed above the occupants’ shoulders. Each person must be visible while the boat is in the water. 8. No more than 4 people allowed in any boat. 9. Children under 12 must have an adult in the boat with them, unless they are capable swimmers. 10. Boats may only be propelled by person power. Canoe paddles, kayak paddles, brooms or kitchen spoons allowed. 11. Boats will be inspected for compliance of these rules and will be disqualified if not in compliance. 12. Note!! The Y might need to remove some decorations or elements of your entries due to sensitive pool chemistry or safety. This will be at the discretion of the judge/event coordinator. AWARDS First and Second Place: for fastest boats. Vogue Award: Most attractive or spectacular-looking boat. Pride of the Regatta: Most creative design and best use of corrugated cardboard. Best Dressed Team Award: Theme based and must be creative! Team Spirit Award: For the team that has the most fun participating. Titanic Award: Most spectacular sinking.
