President’s Report
Fred has met with the Deputy Chief of Police of Durham. The Durham Police Department is
seeking to recruit members of minority groups.

Branch should continue to seek such sponsorships.
Report on NEAC Quarterly Meeting
Fred and Freddye Ross and Rogers Johnson attended the June 8 meeting in Newport RI.
The NAACP position on charter schools was discussed at the meeting. Among other concerns, the NAACP sees funding being drawn away from traditional public schools. Discussion
at the meeting focused on the effects in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, but it is expected that the Charter School Association will push for more charter schools in other states.

Website
Linda Freeman sends monthly e-mail reminders of the upcoming membership meetings. She
would like to receive input regarding important and interesting items on the upcoming agenda,
in order to include the information in these e-mails, to attract greater attendance. Rogers
Johnson reiterated the importance of putting frequent information online to spark the interest of
members and the public. Linda will send more frequent e-mails if provided with input that
would interest the recipients.
Youth Council
Co-Chair David Holt noted that the principal of the Somersworth High School is retiring at the
end of the year, but he hopes to contact her to plan for the coming year.
Ongoing Business
Fred Ross will contact the New Hampshire Attorney General regarding investigation into the
death of Jeffrey Pendleton in the Valley Street Jail in Manchester.
The annual picnic was briefly discussed, with some uncertainty about whether or not there is a
firm reservation at the Eliot Boat Basin.
New Business
Fred Ross has received a letter from Bill Robinson, NEAC Political Action Chair, concerning
NEAC’s “This Is My Vote” voter registration campaign. Nur Shoop and David Holt have volunteered to serve on a committee to carry out the campaign plans of the Branch. Nur emphasized that they would need help from members in this endeavor, and passed a sign-up sheet
for members volunteering to help at the voter registration booths..
A suggestion was raised that we might develop an insert for our application envelopes, giving
the website address and the time and place of meetings. The envelopes with the inserted information would be available at the voter registration booths.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:25 p.m
Respectfully submitted,
Secretary
Frances Elsemore
