Revisions to the WV WIC Approved Food List
Please share with all store managers, stock/ordering personnel and distributors
WIC Federal Regulations (7 CFR Part 246) define the eligibility requirements for food
placed on the WIC Program Shopping Guide. The regulations governing the WIC food
packages align WIC food packages with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and current infant
and child feeding practice guidelines of the American Academy of Pediatrics. The guidelines
also promote and support the establishment of successful long-term breastfeeding, provide WIC
participants with a wider variety of food, and provide WIC State agencies with greater flexibility
in prescribing food packages to accommodate participants with cultural food preferences.
The West Virginia WIC Program is revising its approved food list to ensure reasonable
variety and availability to better meet the needs of WIC participants. The changes listed below
will become effective July 1, 2015. Also attached is a comprehensive list of products and
Universal Product Codes (UPC) for WIC allowed items for purchase in West Virginia.
