Qualifications for Rule 27(14) Court Reporters

Rule 27(14) requires that examinations for discovery be conducted before a reporter
certified by a justice of the Supreme Court of Yukon or certified in another jurisdiction.
In order to be certified by a justice of the Supreme Court of Yukon, a reporter must
provide the following to the Clerk of the Supreme Court:




proof of current enrollment as a notary public;
a curriculum vitae;
one piece of government-issued photo I.D., and;
three references.
Once approved of by a justice of the Supreme Court, the reporter shall appear for an
appointment and sign the Declaration attached as Schedule A.
A record of certified reporters will be kept by the Clerk of the Supreme Court and made
available on request. The certification of a court reporter may be revoked by a justice of
the Supreme Court on the basis that the reporter is no longer a notary public or that the
reporter has failed to abide by the terms of his or her Declaration.
The option of using video-conferencing with a certified court reporter present in another
jurisdiction may be discussed in case management.

Schedule A – Declaration of Certified Reporter
DECLARATION
I, ___________________________ (name), of __________________________ (city,
province/territory), do solemnly declare that I shall faithfully and accurately, and to the
best of my ability, report in shorthand or by stenotype or by sound recording apparatus
evidence given at examinations for discovery, and will deliver to counsel or the court a
true transcript of the same.
