The following is acceptable evidence of competency in English:
Satisfying the MCA that English is the candidate's mother tongue (first language).
Holding an advanced English Language certificate issued by the British Council.
Holding a Berlitz Language School level 2+ certificate endorsed by the company.
Holding a certificate of TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) as applicable for admission to US Universities.
Passing the Marlins test at an approved Marlins Test Centre
In addition to the Marlins Test Result, we require either
(a) written confirmation from the owners/managers stating that the applicant has been interviewed and that his standard if
spoken English was found to be satisfactory for the capacity in which he is to be employed, or
(b) passing the Marlins Test of Spoken English (TOSE) at an
approved Marlins test centre.

CÓMO ES EL EXAMEN
Each test consists of a total of 85 questions which are broken down
into the following categories:
Listening comprehension (25 questions)
Grammar (30 questions)
Vocabulary (15 questions)
Different sounds and pronunciation (9 questions)
Reading (1 questions)
Time and numbers (5 questions)
The final score is calculated as an overall percentage.
There is no time limit for taking the test but the recommended
maximum time is 60 minutes.

The ISF Marlins Test Of Spoken English (TOSE) provides the oral
assessor with a standardised interview format for assessing the
speaking and listening skills of all ranks and nationality of seafarers.
Used as a stand-alone product, it provides a thorough assessment of of
the seafarer’s ability to understand and speak English.
Used in conjunction with the ISF Marlins computer test it provides the
employer with a complete profile of the seafarer’s language proficiency.
