BAMPTON C.E. PRIMARY SCHOOL GOVERNOR NEWSLETTER II

BAMPTON C.E. PRIMARY SCHOOL
GOVERNOR NEWSLETTER II
Learning together with Respect. Friendship and Perseverance
Dear parents and carers
Welcome to the second governor newsletter of the year; just a week away from the Autumn break. The staff and children
at Bampton Primary School will be looking forward to a well-deserved rest and a recharge of the batteries. However,
before the term ends the Governing Body are inviting parents to attend a Coffee Morning. In attendance will be myself
with other governors and Carol Phillips. The aim of such a morning is to allow parents to meet governors and ask
questions or make suggestions about Bampton Primary School. Such events can have variable attendance and whilst we
try to arrange similar events (with different timings) it is understandable that parents find it difficult to make time for such
events. Therefore may I suggest that you send any questions/suggestions to the e-mail address given below. This can then
be presented at the Coffee Morning.
Finally, I would like to draw your attention to the ‘Growth Mindset’ information evening next term. I’ve actually been
doing some homework for this event. I looked at the recommended website (www.thinkingeducation.co.uk) and the
YouTube video. In the process I found an interesting quiz and was intrigued by the ‘2nd Mindset Rule’ (see below). It
promises to be an inspiring event to engage parents with what Bampton Primary School is embarking on with our children
– I highly recommend it.
Have a great weekend and (when it comes) a half term break.

WHAT IS A PHILOSOPHICAL QUESTION?
Try this quiz!
1) Which major river flows through Paris?
2) When was the Battle of Hastings?
3) Which type of Christianity is led by the Pope?
4) Are words ‘real’?
5) What makes something ‘wet’?
6) What makes something ‘beautiful’?
7) A £10000 car is discounted by 25%. What does it cost?
8) When should people get married?
9) What is the fruit of the third behind?
10) Why does water ‘bubble’ when it is boiling?
11) Who are known as the ‘Gunners’?
12) Is it ever good to lie?
Now answer these questions:
a) Are all of these questions good ‘quiz questions’?
b) Which ones can be answered with a single, correct answer?
c) Which ones might be a matter of opinion?
d) Were there any that were not really questions at all?
Which questions would your child prefer to answer? Perhaps
where there’s no single answer; it needs to be discussed or
‘enquired about’? Try them.

Fixed Mindset
Effort is bad thing:
‘I have ability! I don’t need to try hard’
‘If you need a lot of effort; it’s a sign you do not have
ability’
Growth Mindset
Effort Activates Ability.
Which one applies to you or to your child?
