MEDIA INFORMATION MEDI A I N FOR M A TI ON A N D GU I D E L I N E S DETROIT TIGERS ON RADIO AND TELEVISION Credentials Tigers Radio Credentials will be issued only to legitimate news-gathering agencies. • Season credentials will be issued only to those agencies that cover the Tigers on a regular basis...these credentials will be laminated with photos and must be worn in a visible manner at all times. • Those not qualifying for season credentials will be considered for daily access. • All requests for credentials must be made in writing on the letterhead of the representative organization. • Daily credentials must be requested at least 24 hours in advance of the game to be covered. • Credentials will be issued to online services that meet all of the following criteria: (1) Is part of a national news gathering agency. (2) Reaches a broad audience. (3) Produces original content. (4) Has an established record of developing original content. (5) Employs full-time journalists. • The Ernie Harwell Media Center is for use by working media ONLY...credentials are not transferable. • Credentialed media are prohibited from requesting autographs on the field or in the clubhouse...all requests should be made through the Tigers Media Relations Department with any violation resulting in immediate revocation of the credential. • Daily credentials will be available at the designated press gate located on Montcalm Avenue three-and-a-half hours before the scheduled first pitch. • No credentials will be mailed. Media Entrance Media may enter Comerica Park through the main administrative lobby located on Montcalm Avenue. Parking A limited number of parking spaces will be set aside for use by media on a daily basis. Please call the Tigers Media Relations office for more information. Ernie Harwell Media Center The Ernie Harwell Media Center is located on the lower suite level behind home plate. Access to press areas is by ramp, media elevator and stairs (to the third-base side of home). • No photography is permitted in the media center without prior approval from the Tigers Media Relations Department. • When appropriate, seating charts will be posted, and some seats will be permanently reserved for the regular season. However, please contact a Tigers Media Relations representative for assistance with seating location. • The media center includes a designated, partitioned area for electronic media located on the first-base side of the box. • A number of credit card/collect telephones are available for media use in the media center and work room. • Game information packages will be available on the back counter of the media center approximately two hours before the game. Box scores, play-by-play sheets and post-game notes will be distributed in the media center, normally about 15 minutes after the game’s final pitch. Clubhouses Entrance to both clubhouses is on the Comerica Park service level, accessible by media elevator, ramp or stairs. The Tigers clubhouse is located behind third base, while the visitors clubhouse is behind first base. • Pre- and post-game access rules are those issued by Major League Baseball. • All still photography and pre-game video photography is prohibited in the Tigers clubhouse without prior consent from the Tigers Media Relations Department. Pre-Game Field Access Only media with credentials permitting field access will be allowed on the Comerica Park playing field. All media must clear the field 30 minutes prior to first pitch. Television Coverage All local television stations are prohibited from shooting and distributing footage inside Comerica Park beginning 30 minutes prior to each contest and until all broadcast television rightsholders have signed off the air. • Footage from Comerica Park property and the concourse area are permitted as long as the playing field does not appear in any way in the shot. • Television cameras on and around field level are limited to natural light whenever players are on the field. • All local television stations desiring to shoot inside Comerica Park must request to do so in advance through the Detroit Tigers Media Relations Department. In-Game Field Access/Photo Wells Only those with credentials expressly permitting in-game field access will be allowed in the photo wells. Two photo wells are located adjacent to each dugout, one on the infield side and one on the outfield side of each. • In-game access is limited to still photographers and rightsholders broadcasting the game. Enter and exit the field via the home plate entrance only. • All photographers must be inside the photo wells at all times. • While the game is in progress, photographers on the field may only change location between innings. Those photographers on the field who change location at any other time without prior approval from the Tigers Media Relations Department are subject to immediate revocation of credentials. • The installation and placement of parabolic microphones and remote equipment is limited to camera wells and must not interfere or block house video. All equipment must remain in the wells and not extend out toward the playing field. • No ball — in-play or dead — should be handled by anyone other than a ballboy. Media Hospitality Media hospitality is in the dining room, located in the back of the Ernie Harwell Media Center. There is a charge per meal. • Open for meal service to accredited media members two hours before first pitch. Media Guides Media guides of the Tigers, Major League Baseball and other teams are available in the Ernie Harwell Media Center from Tigers Media Relations personnel. Detroit native Mario Impemba enters his seventh season as the popular play-by-play announcer on FSN Detroit’s coverage of the Tigers. • Impemba’s work on Tigers games earned him a Michigan Emmy in June 2006 in the “Sports Play-by-Play” category. • He provided studio and on-location reports, interviews and analysis throughout FSN’s postgame coverage during the Tigers playoff run in 2006. • Beyond his Tigers duties, Impemba has done play-by-play on FSN coverage of MHSAA football and basketball championship games, as well as CCHA hockey...during the off-season he handles radio and TV play-by-play for Oakland University Golden Grizzlies men’s basketball. • Impemba created and maintains TheSoundofBaseball.com, a website devoted to featuring the great voices that have described the game of baseball, both past and present, radio and TV...he also authors an in-season blog on the FSN Detroit website (FoxSports.com/Detroit). • Before joining the FSN broadcast team, Impemba spent the previous seven seasons as the radio voice of the Anaheim Angels ...also served as a fill-in TV play-by-play announcer for the Angels during his final three years in Anaheim, where he was rated among Southern California’s best play-by-play announcers by the Los Angeles Daily News. • Prior to joining the Angels in 1995, spent four seasons (1991-94) calling games for the Tucson Toros of the Pacific Coast League. • Was the voice of the Quad City Angels Single A team in Davenport, IA from 1989-90...spent 1987-88 in Peoria, IL, where he announced games for the Single A Peoria Chiefs. • Previously served as sports director at WXCL Radio in Peoria...also did play-by-play for the Peoria Rivermen of the International Hockey League. • Professional career began in 1985 at KVOP Radio in Plainview, TX. • Is a 1985 graduate of Michigan State where as a student he served as sports director at campus radio station WLFT, also providing play-by-play for Spartans baseball, basketball and hockey. • Is 45 years old...born in Detroit and moved to nearby Sterling Heights in the mid-1970s, graduating from Stevenson High School in 1981. • Impemba and his wife Cathy have two sons, Brett (14) and Daniel (11) and reside in Macomb County. DAN DICKERSON After making his Tigers broadcasting debut in 2000, veteran Michigan sports announcer Dan Dickerson returns for his ninth season in the booth and his sixth season as the lead play-by-play voice of the Tigers. • Named Michigan Sportscaster of the Year in 2005 and 2006 by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. • Dickerson previously worked for five years with former Tigers flagship WJR-AM, in a variety of roles. • Served as co-host of “WJR Sportswrap,” a nightly call-in show. • Worked as sideline reporter and substitute play-by-play announcer for University of Michigan football for WJR and spent two seasons as play-by-play announcer for University of Michigan basketball...was formerly WJR’s morning sports anchor. • Spent six-and-a-half years with Detroit’s WWJ-AM from 1988-95, hosting a post-game call-in show following Detroit Lions broadcasts and serving as a sideline reporter for University of Michigan football. • Also anchored WWJ’s news and sports on the weekends and served as general assignment news reporter. • Has won several awards from the Associated Press including “Best Live Broadcast, Sporting Event” (1996 and 1998) and “Best Coverage of Breaking News” and “Best Sports Feature” (1994). • Began his sports broadcasting career at WCUZ Radio in Grand Rapids, MI, working at the station from 1982-88. • Broadcast play-by-play for high school football and basketball for WCUZ, anchored afternoon drive sports and served in the station’s news department as reporter and assignment editor/assistant news director. • Started in radio in 1980 with WMAX radio in Grand Rapids, covering general assignment news and anchoring afternoon newscasts. • Earned his bachelor of arts degree from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1980. • Resides in Clarkston, MI with wife Lori and children Rachel (1/13/95) and Justin (4/9/98). • Co-host of "Tigertown," a weekly off-season talk show on WXYT that focuses on Tigers news and baseball hot stove topics. D E T R O I T T I G E R S 387 I N F O R M A T I O N G U I D E ROD ALLEN Former Tigers outfielder Rod Allen enters his sixth season as analyst on FSN Detroit’s telecasts, marking his 31st season in professional baseball. • Allen’s insightful work on Tigers telecasts has earned him two consecutive Michigan Emmys (2006 and 2007) in the “Sports Analyst” category. • He provided studio and on-location analysis throughout FSN’s postgame coverage during the Tigers playoff run in 2006. • In addition to his FSN Detroit analyst duties, Allen filled that role for a FOX Saturday Game of the Week regional telecast on July 22, 2006 featuring the Tigers and Oakland Athletics. • Before joining FSN’s Tigers telecast team, he spent five seasons (1998-2002) with the Arizona Diamondbacks as a television and radio analyst...served as the commentator on the Diamondbacks radio broadcasts in the 2001 post-season, including the National League Championship series against the St. Louis Cardinals and the World Series against the New York Yankees. • In addition to his work with the Diamondbacks, Allen provided analysis on Fox Saturday Baseball regional telecasts and the National League Division Series between the Atlanta Braves and Houston Astros. • Prior to his work as a broadcaster, Allen spent four seasons as a hitting instructor in the Florida Marlins organization from 1992-95. • Allen spent the last three years of his playing career with Hiroshima in Japan’s Central League...clubbed a pair of home runs against Seibu in the 1991 Japan Series and set a Japanese regular-season record with four home runs in four consecutive at-bats during his tenure in the league. • Hit .296 in 27 at-bats during a 15-game stint as an outfielder and designated hitter with the World Champion Detroit Tigers in 1984. • Enjoyed two other stints in the majors with the Seattle Mariners in 1983 and the Cleveland Indians in 1988. • Selected by the Chicago White Sox in the sixth round of the June 1977 draft. • Allen and his wife Adrian have a son, Andrew (18), a freshman on the baseball team at the University of Arizona, and a daughter, Rachel (16)...also has a daughter Rhonda and a son Rod Jr., who played the last few seasons in the minor leagues after being a 2004 draftee of the New York Yankees.
