Bollywood Day was an absolutely Fantastic Friday and I have to thank all the mums who got involved and helped us out. It was wonderful to see, and all the children thoroughly enjoyed the experience. As a school, we relish the input that our parents give us on these occasions and appreciate these efforts. Year 2 and Year 6 have been doing the SATs; Year 6 have been doing external exams and Year 2 internal ones. I’d like to thank Mrs Barnett and Mr Metcalfe for stepping into Mrs Robert’s shoes. They will be continuing in this way until July as Mrs Roberts’ husband is still recovering from a serious stroke. She plans to be back with us from September. Finally, I would like you all to spend a few moments of quiet time with your children this week. As a school we have been saddened by the sudden loss of one of our former pupils, Aashi Sinha, who was only 18. The staff remember her huge smile and forthright manner and all our sympathies are with Aashi’s family and friends, many of whom still attend our school. Mrs S-J Gooding Headmistress Counting Caterpillar - Form R Form R have been busy in the early stages of making a caterpillar to help them count in two’s. We made the most of the few days of good weather (sadly the only ones we’ve had!) and took our painting equipment outside so we could get fully involved. The children had a great time with the paints in their aprons and were able to go wild with the colours to create a giant colourful caterpillar. We will be sure to update you when it’s finished! 10th - 14th Forms III - V Exam Week 19th 7:30pm Induction Evening 20th Whole School Panoramic School Photo 21st Form V Mountfitchet Castle Trip Form IV Colchester Zoo Trip PFA Fun Evening 4pm (No Afterschool Club) I’m very excited to be running the Scholastic Book Club here at school. Orders can be placed online at: www.clubs-school.scholastic.co.uk/gidea-park Payment is completed online - unfortunately I am unable to take cash orders through school. The deadline for orders is FRIDAY 31ST MAY. Books will be delivered to me at school after this date, which I will then distribute. Every order earns rewards for us to spend on books for school. The first thing we did was pond-dipping. We got nets and then we looked for the creatures that live in the pond. Some of the creatures we found were a Scooby Diver, a baby fish and a worm. After we finished pond-dipping we washed our hands and then we had our lunch. After lunch we learnt about the life cycle of ants. Next we were sweeping the grass and looking for creatures that lived there. We found a Froghopper, a fly and an ant. After this we looked in the different habitats of animals and in one of them we found lots of ants. In another there was just a snail and in the last one there was a mouse! Once we had finished then we went back to school. My favourite activity was the pond-dipping. Jai Johal, Form II Football Match Report - Gidea Park College Vs Galleywood On the 8th May, the Gidea Park College Football team (consisting of James, Junior, Oise, Thomas, Arun, George, Jeremy, Atul and Vidwat) travelled to Galleywood School in Chelmsford for a friendly match. Arun scored the first two goals from inside the box and then Thomas scored one by intercepting the ball. We all thought that Arun would be the one to score the hat-trick, but then Junior struck and scored the hat-trick for himself. The Galleywood team tried hard and managed to score one goal, but it wasn’t enough to beat our team and the final score was an impressive 6-1 to Gidea Park College. We are now looking forward to two more friendly matches towards the end of term against Gidea Park Primary school and against the Galleywood A-team. Thomas Chapman & Timothy Kennelly, Form VI Measuring - Form I Form I have been learning about measures. They have used standard and non-standard units of measuring equipment to estimate, then measure the length and width of selected objects. They compared two, then more, masses using direct comparisons as well as using uniform non-standard units to measure the mass of an object both individually, in pairs and in groups. Chloe enjoyed working with Ella to measure the castle with sticks. Sruthika enjoyed working with Gorjess to measure the length of the classroom with 110 dominoes. Lola liked using the wheel to measure the length of the playground. Chinedum enjoyed weighing lots of different things like cubes, magnetic scissors, glue, books etc with his group, as did Didem. The whole school enjoyed a truly interactive experience as they immersed themselves in Bollywood culture for the day including dancing, food and clothing. A heartfelt thanks to all the mums who came in on the day to help out and those who lent their beautiful saris to staff and children. Without you, it wouldn’t have been possible. A big thank you also to Darren, the dance instructor who joined us for the day. Here is the day from Pre-Prep’s perspective… Pre-prep had a lovely time on ‘Bollywood Day.’ Staff and children both dressed up in Indian clothing and we listened to Indian music. Our Form VI prefects, Himani and Zaira showed us some Bollywood dances and in no time at all we were all dancing alongside them. Aryan’s mummy (Mrs Agarwal) came in painted beautiful Mendhi tattoos onto the children’s hands. During snack-time we tasted Indian food supplied by the parents. A big thank you to Mrs Krishna for giving up her time, Mrs Chowdhury and her sister who kindly loaned the clothes and to all the parents who supplied food. We all thoroughly enjoyed the day. Mrs S.
