Micah and Heidi with their children Brandon, Micah II, Adam, Mary, and Dave M T here is a different sound drawing attention among listeners and the music industry alike. This sound not only speaks to the heart, it changes the heart, and you cannot help but sing along. Local gospel recording artist Micah Stampley delivers a heavenly sound that praises God’s timeless message of love, mercy, and redemption. Stampley’s goal is to leave an imprint on the hearts of those who have ears to hear. At Home in Sugar Land The Stampley’s have called Sugar Land home for about six years. They enjoy moments gathered at home around the table for a meal. “These are the times that are special to us,” says Micah’s wife, Heidi. “Also you might catch us at one of our favorite Sugar Land eating spots, Sweet Mesquite, Olive Garden and Incredible Pizza.” Micah, Heidi, and their children Brandon, Micah II, Adam, Mary, and Dave consider Sugar Land a great place to live because they love their peaceful, quiet neighborhood, and they also love what the city has to offer in entertainment and family activities. Young Minister of the Gospel At age 7 Stampley started leading the choir at this father’s church. He’s a self-taught pianist, and directing, arranging, and teaching vocal harmonies are also among his musical abilities. Although Stampley loves the R & B sound, which is present in many of his songs, he felt that gospel music was in his soul because of his rich gospel background. “We enjoy writing our own songs, and the lyrics are inspired by the things that go on in every day life.” -Heidi Stampley Stampley’s 2006 debut CD, The Songbook of Micah, earned him a nomination for two Steller Awards: Male Vocalist of the Year and New Artist of the Year. Stampley’s multi-octave voice has made him an incredible performer and he went on to receive two more Steller nominations in 2008 for Praise and Worship Album of the Year. The song, I Believe, written by Heidi, and the correlated music video received a nomination for Best Soul Video of the Year. Building a Legacy A proud family man, Stampley places his wife and children as top priority over career. He believes that his purpose is to love God and family first, then career will take care of itself. Heidi remarks, “We enjoy writing our own songs, and the lyrics are inspired by the things that go on in every day life.” The couple co-wrote the song Ransomed and, after Heidi experienced a painful illness a few years ago, she wrote the song Speak Into My Life. “It was a difficult time for me, but knowing God is good, I was completely healed of the illness,” Heidi explains. “And I trusted God’s Word to bring life and restoration.” To advertise, call 281-579-7944 or email [email protected] sugar land magazine • 73 The children are homeschooled, which allows for time to tour with their dad “Balancing career and family is relatively easy,” Micah says. “Sometimes Heidi and the children travel with me. She home schools which allows the children the freedom to get their education, while learning about the music industry.” “Watching our children develop their style and passion in music, screenwriting, and acting gives Heidi and myself the satisfaction that another generation of Stampley’s will take the torch,” says Micah. Their three oldest children, Brandon, 14, Micah II, 9, and Adam, 7, love to sing with their dad, and were featured in the song Speak Into My Life. Brandon has future goals for screenwriting, but he’d also like to consider acting. Five-year-old Mary says that she enjoys ballet and cheerleading. Heidi thinks Mary exhibits her fair share of drama, making acting a real possibility for her. Dave, 4, is enthusiastic about basketball and football right now. 74 • sugar land magazine Visit SugarLandMagazine.com for SL jobs, events, news and more. Prince of Ghana Recently the Stampley’s met His Royal Majesty King Adamtey I, from the country of Ghana. He and Micah’s relationship developed into something more than a friendship. King Adamtey adopted Micah as his son, since the King had no sons or heir to his throne, which made him the Prince of Ghana. Micah said, “Ghana is a very prosperous country with two million in population. I now have a portion of land for another venture idea, to build the Ghana Conservatory of the Performing Arts. It will allow those in Ghana the opportunity to learn music, drama, and other art mediums.” Humanitarian Hearts Stampley says, “One thing we are excited about, as a family, is our non-profit organization called I Believe, established on a 400-acre property named Eagles Nest, located in Greensberg, Louisiana. On site is a plantation home and there are plans to further develop the property for humanitarian purposes.” The Stampley’s exhibit a humble and gentle spirit. They can quickly become your friend with a smile, leaving fans craving to know more about this unique family. Their personable charm is a breath of fresh air for the City of Sugar Land.
