South Dakota is known for its characters from the past,
such as Calamity Jane, Wild Bill Hickok, Jack McCall,
and Potato Creek Johnny. What is your favorite
Old West tale of South Dakota?
If you were asked to create a new South Dakota
“welcome” sign to be installed along the highways
at our state’s borders, what would it look like,
and what would it say?

that outsiders have bought into with regard

Wall Drug has signs located all over the world
(including at the South Pole and in Africa!) that let
people know how far away they are from Wall Drug
and its famous free ice water. Where would you like to
erect the next Wall Drug sign, and how many miles is
that location from Wall Drug?
What particular aspect of South Dakota would you
miss the most if you ever had to move out of state?
We have a state song (“Hail, South Dakota”),
a state flower (American pasque), a state bird
(ring-necked pheasant) . . . But what do you think
would best qualify as our official state sound?
On a scale of one to ten, how proud are you
of South Dakota? (1 = Is there any way I can leave this

With 77,121 square miles of land, South Dakota
is the 17th largest state in the country. If we had the
opportunity to acquire a neighboring state to become
even larger, which one would you want to add on?
