CREATIVITY WEEK
For the final week of last term Gayhurst and Kingsmead
Primary held Creativity Weeks and took part in the
National Gallery's Take One Picture challenge. This
was the first time we had taken part in the National
Gallery project — it was a fantastic and unique
experience, with all of the children’s learning for the
week being based around the National Gallery painting
'Penelope and the Suitors' by Pintoricchio. Student
teachers from the School Direct training programme
came into every class to lead sessions. Each class had
different experiences ranging from process art, to dance
choreography, 3D clay diorama's, ship building for
Regent's canal, game making, sewing & weaving and
even building castles to have a huge medieval battle!
The children thoroughly enjoyed it.
Chidu in 1B said "I liked Creativity Week because I got
lots of knowledge" and from 5M Georgie F said "It was
really fun as we got to do new things - You thought you
couldn't do it, but you could because it was good
teamwork". Speaking of the battle of the castles - "It was
totally epic and I really enjoyed it" (Isaac 4R) and "When
we had the battle it was such a fun experience " (Riyad
4R). "It was amazing how people came in and worked
with us" (Albert 3/4T) and "It was really fun because we
got to make such different things" (Loki 3L).
All of the finished pieces were then put on display
outside (and inside) the classrooms. What a
wonderful experience and we can't
wait for our next Creativity week!
ARTSKICKERS AWARD
On Wednesday 29th March Karen, Thomas, Helen and
students Ahadu and Carla attended the prestigious Arts
Kickers award ceremony at The Stage in Shoreditch. This
was because our Year 3 and 4 children had been
nominated for the Future Artist Award category, for their
fantastic Surrealism exhibition currently on show at our
very own #TAG Gayhurst Art gallery. We are delighted
to announce that we won! We were handed our award by
the artist Gavin Turk, who was one of the judges. It was a
fantastic evening and we all really enjoyed ourselves.
Well done to our Year 3 and 4 classes and a huge thank
you to Art Hoppers.
Ahadu (Tokyo): “ It felt so nice to go up on stage and tell
people how happy we were. It was such a great
experience meeting
different people and
celebrating art.”
Carla (Rome class): “ I
really enjoyed the
evening and I’m really
happy that we won. I
really liked meeting the
artists.”

TAKE ACTION AGAINST EDUCATION CUTS
Over the next few years, schools stand to lose huge amounts of money under the Government's funding proposals.
This could potentially result in bigger class sizes, loss of school staff and cuts to extra-curricular activities and
resources across the country. Inner London schools will be worse affected, many having to make savings of up to
12%. Please call on the Government to take action to protect our children's education by signing the online
petition and emailing our MP at www.schoolcuts.org.uk. We can make a difference if school staff and parents and
carers act together. THANK YOU!

NEXT WEEKS COGS MEETING!
BUDGET CUTS / HOW COGS CAN HELP
Some of you may already be aware of the huge budget
cuts that schools are facing but did you realise that
Gayhurst is expected to have its budget cut by
approximately £400,000 by 2019? Every pupil will be
affected. This is a serious concern. Louise Nichols,
Gayhurst's Executive Headteacher, will attend the
meeting to talk in detail about the reality of these budget
cuts. For more information please visit
www.schoolcuts.org.uk. The support that COGS
provides is needed now more than ever before. As well
as hearing from Louise, we will discuss the allocating of
current COGS funds, and plan the rest of this years
fundraising events, including the Summer Fair. Please
show your support by attending this crucial meeting.
Any questions, please email. All welcome!
MEETING DATE: Friday 28th April
LOCATION: School (Room TBC)
TIME: Post pick up at 3:45pm. Childcare will be
provided by the school – please email
[email protected] if you would like to use this
service, with your child/s name and age, so we have an
idea of numbers.
GYMNASTICS PERFORMANCES
At the end of last term we
were treated to a series of
great gymnastics
performances. 1B, 1/2A
and 3R completed their
routines fantastically well
and the adults watching
were really impressed with
how well the children
remembered the routines
and their fantastic teamwork. The performances
from 4R and 5M were
equally impressive with children performing lots of
coordinated jumps, cartwheels and lifts to music. Again,
the cooperation and concentration shown by the children
was brilliant to see. A huge thank you to our specialist
teacher, Julia, for all her hard work coordinating these
performances. We look forward to the next set of
gymnastics performances at the end of the summer term.
Please remember to inform the main office of any changes to your contact details
i.e: home number, mobile phone number, address, or if your child has a medical condition.
