bowling, squash many of the children trying
them for the first time.
The semi-finals and final of the Euro football
tournament will be held this week (weather
permitting!)
Archery Club was a great success and enjoyed
by all the children who took part. We are
hoping to run this again next year.
School trips/activities
Congratulations to the Glee Club who came 3rd
in the final at the Piccadilly Theatre organised
by the Edmonton Schools Partnership. The
Mayor of Enfield, Bernadette Lappage, said,
“Performing at the Piccadilly Theatre [is] a
unique and magical experience which is truly
inspirational.” They showed their skills to the
whole school in a special Glee Assembly on
Wednesday.
The Science Fair on June 17th was a great
success: Each year group (and Code Club) made
a display and prepared activities based on one
of the science topics they covered this
academic year. All the pupils really enjoyed
each section and learnt a whole variety of new
things.
Members of the Royal British Legion
(Leytonstone) gave a talk to Year 6 about
World War 2. One of them, Mr Bill Allen, was
one of Field Marshall Montgomery's
bodyguard, helping to guard him in
England before D-Day then after D-Day in
France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. The
children were thrilled to meet a real hero!
Congratulations to Lamiek whose photo
representing The Tempest won first place in
the Lamb Festival photography competition.
Last week Year 2 performed a lot of fun songs
to their parents and carers. This was to
celebrate all of the work they had been doing
in their Songsack project. It was great to see
the children singing so enthusiastically!
Well done to all the singers and
instrumentalists who performed at our Evening
of Music last month. It was attended by nearly
200 relatives and friends.
All KS2 children went on a pilgrimage (on the
W8 bus!) to visit the Holy Door at Our Lady of
Mount Carmel and St George Church in Enfield.
Mrs Hanley and Mrs Johnstone led us on a
journey around the church, as a ‘way of mercy’,
pausing, praying, and giving thanks, especially
at various focal points.
Year 3 children and others celebrated their
First Holy Communion together with a Mass in
church and a party in school.
Year 2 have visited Paradise Park, Year 3 will
be going to Forty Hall and Reception to the
Lee Valley Farms.
Children in Years 3 and 4 will be enjoying
French Day on July 14th with a petit dejeuner
of croissants. They will learn about Bastille
Day and will make dictionaries for our French
link school.
St Edmund’s hosted the Enfield Summer Music
Festival on July 6th. Joining us for a morning of
music were children from Eldon Junior School
and Nightingale Academy.
The boys who won the David Pam Memorial
Bursary prize for local history went to the
Dugdale Centre on Monday for the prize
presentation. They received a book token each,
which they donated to the children’s ward at
the North Middlesex Hospital, some history
books and £250 which we will spend taking
them on a trip to the Kelvedon Hatch Secret
Nuclear Bunker on Friday.
Poetry week this week will end with a
celebration of performance poetry by all
children.
The Art group visited the Tate Modern to see,
amongst other things, Picasso’s Weeping
Woman, which they have studied in Art
lessons, and Jannis Kounellis’ Untitled 1969.
They also met Tom Wilson (aka Chewing Gum
Man) on the Millennium Bridge and filled their
sketch books.
Reception and KS1 have their Teddy Bear’s
Picnic on July 18th.
We have been looking forward to the Olympics
this summer in our International Week. The
whole school joined in dancing and a parade
last week with many children wearing their
national dress or in their country’s colours. 42
different countries were represented! Thank
you to all parents who visited classes to talk
about their country and culture. Some of the
children also went to Jubilee Park to take part
in the “Road to Rio” dance event with four
other schools.
Year 6 have had (and will continue to have) a
very busy end to their time at St Edmund’s
with a pizza party, disco, induction days at
their new schools, workshops on Gangs- Making
Right Choices and WW2, production of the
Jungle Book, Leavers Mass and Leavers
Presentation.
Photos and videos of these events can be
found on the school website.
Assemblies
Thanks to Years 1 and 5 who led the liturgies
for St Peter and St Paul on June 29th.
At the assembly on July 4th the Enfield Library
Service introduced this year’s Summer Reading
Challenge celebrating the 100th birthday of
one of the most popular children’s authors of
all time – Roald Dahl. The Reading Challenge
begins just as the new film of the BFG will be
released in cinemas on July 22nd, and we hope
that lots of children will take part this year in
this free event, running in all public libraries.
The Year 1 classes did an assembly about
Friendship and the Reception classes told us
about all the things they have done and learned
since starting school in September.
The KS1 Leavers liturgy will be on July 15th.
There will also be a final Big Pedal Bike It
assembly on July 18th.

Parents’ Groups
Our classes in Strengthening Families,
Parentgym and ESOL have come to a
successful conclusion. Everyone who has
attended has said how much they appreciated
and enjoyed them.
Dear Parents and Children,
As we come to the end of another very
successful school year, I wish you all a
happy and restful holiday. You have all
worked hard and deserve to take a break so
that you can return to school in September,
refreshed and energised. We wish our
pupils in Year 6 good luck in their
Secondary Schools. I thank all the staff for
their dedicated work in support of your
children. May God bless us all. Mrs.
Hanley
God of wisdom,
We thank you for all the gifts you
have given us throughout this school
year.
As we come to the end of the year,
we voice our gratitude for the good
things you have done in us,
and we praise you for all who have
shared in the work of this school.
We ask you to bless them in your love
and give them refreshment and peace.
Amen
