Week, we invite you to come over
to Bentley on Monday, November
17th. Fifth graders will Drop
Everything and Read from 10:00 to
10:30 and you are welcome to join
us during that time!
The Bentley Family would like to help out those families
who are less fortunate. Throughout November we will be
donating a dime from every milk shake sold during lunch to
the Morning Star Mission. The dime will help pay for
Thanksgiving meals for local families in need. Shakes will be
sold on Wednesdays and Fridays. If you have any questions
please contact our office at 815-485-4451.

Science- We focused on Biomes this week. Students gathered information on each biome from their
text and blueplanetbiomes.org. What biome do we live in? Social Studies- We are beginning Unit 3
on Early Settlers in North America. Spain established a settlement at St. Augustine to begin trading.
Math- Students took their Unit 4 test. We will continue to work on division word problems and
situations next week. We are doing our 4 min timed test on division facts! Please study.
Homeroom- Do you have catalogues and magazines at home? Please send them to school for a
winter project. Our Scholastic book order has been shipped and should be here soon! Have a great
weekend!

Next week we will continue working on lesson 9 in Storytown. Our reading skill will continue to focus
on sequencing of events, and our grammar skill will focus on clauses and phrases; complex
sentences. In spelling, we will be working on words with the VCCCV pattern (congress, complex,
goggles, etc.). In writing, students will be elaborating with examples in a persuasive essay. Lesson 9
tests will be on Thursday, November 20.

This week we read a historical fiction story and focused on the skill of compare and contrast. In
grammar we reviewed common and proper nouns. Next week we will a nonfiction selection on
marine biology while focusing on the skill of compare and contrast. We will also complete a short
research activity to go along with the content of the story. We hope to share our research and
findings with you at parent teacher conferences. We will also finish our Global Read Aloud book, The
Fourteenth Goldfish, next week. Since Friday is a half day and the Reality Fair, we will take our
lesson tests on Thursday.

We have celebrated Veteran's Day with an assembly and a talk session with Sgt. Terry Traeder. We
also had our Robert Crown talk about changes in our bodies. Ask your child what they learned from
our R.C. talks. We have discussed the importance of the Spanish mission in the spread of Spanish
settlements in North America and relationships between Spanish settlers in North America.

Wow! November is flying by so quickly. Students need to continue to read 20 minutes for 20 nights
for November "Book It". Next week our writing skill will be staying on topic. Lesson 7 grammar quiz
over simple and compound sentences will be on Tuesday. Next week we will learn how to make stop
motion film and how to use a green screen. We will also complete a poetry/fluency activity using
the App ChatterPix.

This week, we divided with decimals in the dividend and then we worked on our Unit 4 study guide.
We will take our test next week and the tests will go home with students before Thanksgiving break.
Our next unit focuses on everybody’s favorite: Fractions!!!! Practicing all math skills at home is free
