What is the physical relief of the Comunidad
de Madrid like?
The Comunidad de Madrid is a triangle-shaped territory that is high above
sea level.
There are 3 major areas with different types of physical relief:
A mountainous area in the north and the west.
A flat plain area in the south and the east.

What is the mountainous area
of our community like?
A group of mountains in a line form a mountain range. In our automomous
community, the mountainous area consists of 3 mountain ranges that form
the Sistema Central: Somosierra, Guadarrama and Gredos.
Somosierra is located in the north.
Guadarrama is the highest mountain range.
Gredos is the lowest mountain range. It is located in the south, but only
a small part of the range is in the Comunidad de Madrid.
The mountains in these areas have got rounded peaks and steep slopes.

Most of the plains in our autonomous community consist of:
flat or rolling fields called campiñas.
