02 July 2015 Changes to metering charges Type 6 metering changes Energex is implementing changes to how customers pay for individual metering connections and personalised metering enhancements / alterations from 1 July 2015 to align with National Rules set by the Australian Energy Regulator (AER). This will result in changes to how customers are charged for some metering services, known as Type 6 meters. *Note: Energex standard meter offering comprises of a single phase, 1 element meter. Where a customer requires anything other than the standard meter offering the retailer/electrical contractor will need to notify Energex and the applicable fee (outlined in Energex’s Tariff Schedule) will be charged. 2. Metering Service Charge from 1 July 2015 A daily fixed charge will be introduced that allows Energex to recover the cost for the provision of Type 6 Metering Services including Meter Provision, Meter Reading, Meter Maintenance and Meter Data Services. The charges will be applied based on What is changing? the number of customer tariffs; the costs are outlined below. Type 6 Metering will consist of two charges: 1. Upfront Meter Installation Service Charge from 1 August 2015 Primary tariff Load control tariff 2.899 cents per day Solar PV tariff 6.767 cents per day 9.668 cents per day The AER requires customers to pay a specific upfront charge for the installation of meters that includes new connections and additions and alterations. Previously these costs were shared amongst all customers through their electricity charges and they are now moving to a user pays based system outlined by the AER.
