Welcome!
Our New Season
The Orangeburg Part-Time Players was founded in 1980 by a small group
of theater-lovers with a desire to establish a local, community theater.
Beginning our 37th season, the OPTP continues to bring quality entertainment to Orangeburg and its surrounding communities.
The OPTP is a self-supporting, all-volunteer organization. We depend
solely upon the support of our members, patrons and contributions from
our community. All donations are tax-deductible and, unless otherwise indicated, will be acknowledged in our season Playbill. If you are interested
in making a contribution or advertising in our Playbill, please contact the
OPTP at 803-536-5454.

Get in the Act - Become a Member
Join the Orangeburg Part-Time Players and become a member of a growing number of adults and children dedicated to bringing the performing
arts to our community. The JrOPTP provides a creative outlet for youth
ages 6 to 18.
Members of the OPTP and JrOPTP are offered opportunities to participate in theater through live performances and education workshops. You
don’t have to be a performer—there are many ways to get involved! For
more details, please refer to our Membership and Season Ticket form or
visit our website at www.optp.org.
Purchase Season Tickets
The Bluebird Theatre is a comfortable, 170-seat theater that is one of
the most state-of-the-art community theaters in the Southeast. Due to the
demand for tickets, we ask that you consider the following when ordering
your season tickets: current season ticket holders wishing to retain the
seat(s) they held in a previous year (row, seat number and performance)
are asked to return their season ticket orders by February 24, 2017. Season ticket orders received after that date will be assigned on a first-come,
first-served basis.
Our special season ticket rate is a great bargain and make the perfect gift
for family and friends! Please select your ticket preferences for weekend,
performance, and seat(s). Mark your selection on the Membership and
Season Ticket form. Season tickets will be available for pickup at the BlueBird Box Office prior to the first season show in March.
We look forward to seeing you in the BlueBird Theatre!
By Stephen Schwartz
March 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, 26
Heir to the Frankish throne, the young prince Pippin is in search
of the secret to true happiness and fulfillment. He seeks it in the
glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh and the
intrigues of political power (after disposing of his father, King
Charlemagne the Great). In the end, though, Pippin finds that
happiness lies not in extraordinary endeavors, but rather in the
unextraordinary moments that happen every day. “Pippin”’s message is
universal and will connect with audiences of all ages. With an infectiously
unforgettable score from the four-time Grammy winner, three-time Oscar
winner and musical theater giant Stephen Schwartz (“Wicked,” “Godspell,”
“Children of Eden”), “Pippin” has been successfully produced on stages
ranging from high school to Broadway.
Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery
By Ken Ludwig
June 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18
Get your deerstalker cap on—the play’s afoot! Comedic
genius Ken Ludwig transforms Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic
“The Hound of the Baskervilles” into a murderously funny
adventure. Sherlock Holmes is on the case. The male heirs of
the Baskerville line are being dispatched one by one. To find
their ingenious killer, Holmes and Watson must brave the
desolate moors before a family curse dooms its newest heir. Watch as our
intrepid investigators try to escape a dizzying web of clues, silly accents,
disguises and deceit as five actors deftly portray more than 40 characters.
Does a wild hellhound prowl the moors of Devonshire? Can our heroes
discover the truth in time? Join the fun and see how far from elementary
the truth can be.
You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown
By Clark Gesner
November 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19
The cast is small and the routines are simple. There are many
short scenes in this staging of a day in the life of Charlie Brown,
based on the “Peanuts” comic strip by Charles M. Schulz. Fun,
laughter and sincerity build the mood. Musical numbers include
“My Blanket and Me,” “The Kite,” “The Baseball Game,” “Little
Known Facts,” “Suppertime” and “Happiness.” Join the Peanuts
gang in this fast-paced, lighthearted musical guaranteed to please audiences of all ages!
