Start our tour to Gyeongbok Palace
- Gyeongbok Palace is a royal palace located in northern
Seoul, South Korea. First constructed in 1394 and
reconstructed in 1867, it was the main and largest palace of
the Five Grand Palaces built by the Joseon Dynasty. The
name of the palace, Gyeongbokgung, translates in English as
"Palace of Shining Happiness." Nearly destroyed by the
Japanese government in the early 20th century, the palace
complex is slowly beingrestored to its original form prior the
destruction. As of 2009, roughly 40 percent of the original
number of palace buildings still stand or are being
reconstructed. In ancient times, the royal guards of Joseon
Dynasty performed the given task by guarding the
Gwanghwamun Gate, the entrance of Gyeongbokgung Palace where the king ruled the
country. Since 1469, the ceremony has taken place and its record has been consulted for
the present reenactment ceremony.

Theme: DMZ and the future of Korea
This morning our visit to Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ)
- The Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) is the buffer zone
between North and South Korea, running across the peninsula
roughly following the 38th parallel. It was created by agreement
between North Korea, China and the United Nations in 1953.
The DMZ is 250 kilometres (160 miles) long, and about 4
kilometres (2.5 miles) wide. Within the DMZ is a meeting-point
between the two nations in the small Joint Security Area (JSA)
near the western end of the zone, where negotiations take
place. There have been various incidents in and around the
DMZ, with military and civilian casualties on both sides. Several
tunnels are claimed to have been built as an invasion route for
the North Koreans.
Imjingak (Nuri Peace Park)
- Established in 1972 immediately after the declaration of the joint
South-North armistice, Imjingak exhibits various relics and
monuments related to the Korean War and subsequent SouthNorth confrontations. Nuri Peace Park is a large park that can
accommodate up to 20,000 tourists at a time. The park has a
variety of sculpted artworks and visitors can enjoy performances
on the hill.
The 3rd Tunnel
- Discovered in 1978, the tunnel was dug by the Northern army to spy on the Republic of
Korea. The tunnel is 1.64 kilometers long, 2 meters high and 2 meters wide. It is a prime
example of the South-North confrontation.
Dorasan Station
- Dorasan Station is one of the northernmost railway stations on the Gyeongui Line,
connecting Seoul to Sinuiju. The station is located in the zone that strictly restricts general
civilian access. From the station, visitors can view Dorasan Mountain and the barbed wire
fences of the Southern Limit Line.

Namsan Mountain (243m). The observatory offers panoramic views of Seoul and the
surrounding areas.
Thirty years and countless visitors later, the structure was renamed „N Seoul Tower.‟ The
letter „N‟ stands for the tower‟s „new‟ look, which resulted from a 15 billion won remodeling
project in December 2005. With a new lighting system and changes to the tower‟s overall
colour scheme, event coordinators can now decorate the tower for the season or events.

Transfer to Museum of Korea Emigration history.
- At the bottom of Wolmi Park the Korean Emigration History
Museum offers interesting insights to the journey of Korean
migrants, with a focus on settlers throughout the Americas. We
learn about the thousands of Korean emigrants: Koreans who
moved to well-known immigrant countries such as the USA, and
more surprising countries such as Paraguay, for work. As the
second largest port city in Korea, Incheon City Port, or as it was
originally called, Jemul-po, was where many Koreans began
their journeys away from their homes, families, and motherland.
Hawaii, due to its need for sugar-cane plantation workers, was
the most popular destination for these early Korean emigrants;
our tour guide told us that between 1905-1907, 7,400 Korean
workers emigrated to Hawaii. Korea‟s history of emigration
certainly is one full of sad stories such as Ham Han-ah‟s, but all
together is one of survival, adaptation, and success; the
Museum made it a point to showcase how these new “KoreanAmericans” assimilated with American culture, while keeping
their traditional Korean values. Korean emigration is an
important part of Korea‟s history, and plays a key role in its
future, as one of the leading countries in the world.
Next visit Incheon Port Floodgate
- Incheon Port Floodgate is located between the beautiful Wolmisan Mountain and
Sowolmido Island. Surrounding the floodgate is a large 66,000 square meter garden
covered with grass, pine trees, ginko trees, and cherry blossom trees, creating a beautiful
scene. Especially in the spring, azaleas, royal azaleas, cherry blossoms, and magnolia
blossoms are blooming, adding to the beauty of the garden. (Need approval with school

exhibition halls: Ancient and Modern Times Hall on the first floor, Incheon Miniature Hall on
the second floor, and IFEZ Miniature Hall on the third floor. On its fourth floor, Business
center, Director's office and lecture rooms are located.
Visitors can learn about the ongoing development of Incheon and the city's vision and plans
for the future. In addition to the three halls, Incheon Compact Smart City also has a special
exhibition hall, a 4D theater, a 5D theater, and an experience exhibition hall.

obstacles and the difficult state of the country.
In 2011, Ara Wateway was finally completed. Along the main waterway are ports and water
bridges and people can enjoy the parkways and Ara-rium.
