1 Understanding the installation process
HPE Insight Management installation process
The HPE Insight Management distribution media contains an installation wizard, the HPE Insight
Management Installer.
The Installer deploys and configures HPE Systems Insight Manager and all essential Insight
Management or the infrastructure management software or both.
The Installer presents you with a series of installation and configuration questions to guide you
through a new installation, an upgrade of existing software, or a combination of both. You can
perform a new installation of one or more software products as well as upgrade currently installed
Insight Management products in the same session. For a new installation, you select software
products from the list of software that is available on the distribution media. Existing installed
software is automatically selected for upgrading. You can select all software products and their
components or select a customized combination of software products and their components.
The Installer automatically selects any dependent software you must install. For example, you
cannot install some software products without installing Systems Insight Manager as well.
Ensure success by running the HPE Insight Management Advisor first
The HPE Insight Management Advisor ,included in the HPE Insight Management DVD, analyzes
and tests your current software and Central Management Server (CMS) environment to ensure
that it meets all installation criteria and provides you with corrective action for problems it identifies.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends that you run the Advisor before you begin the installation
or upgrade process. The results of the tests help you to identify issues or deficiencies with the
target server that would cause issues with HPE Systems Insight Manager and its integrated
software products. You can select the types of tests to run or restrict the tests to those for a
specific software product.
IMPORTANT: To install HPE Insight Management, you need to have the administrative
privileges on the server.
NOTE: To modify the Windows settings, the user needs to be either an Administrator or must
have Administrative privileges on the CMS.
Installation user interface
When you insert the HPE Insight Management DVD #1 into the CMS or mount ISO image #1,
an end user license agreement (EULA) appears, which you must read and accept before you
can continue. After accepting the EULA, the HPE Insight Management start-up window is
displayed, and you see the following tabs:

HPE Insight Management product summary
For information about the HPE Insight Management products you can install, see the HPE Insight
Management Getting Started Guide.
Assumptions
This guide assumes that you have already:
•
Read the HPE Insight Management Installation and Upgrade Release Notes.
•
Confirmed the target CMS has a supported configuration as detailed in the HPE Insight
Management Support Matrix.
•
Reviewed the HPE Insight Management Getting Started Guide to determine which products
you want to install.
•
Completed the HPE Insight Management Preinstallation Worksheet.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends that you print the HPE Insight Management
Preinstallation Worksheet and gather the required installation information before you start
the installation.
You can find links to these documents on the Documentation tab or at:
Hewlett Packard Enterprise Information Library
The installation process
The Insight Management Installer installs all HPE Insight Management products in a single
session on a single management server. Variations to this installation process might occur under
any of the following scenarios:
IMPORTANT: Installation of IM DVD components is not supported on systems with only IPv6
stack. The system must either have IPv4 stack or both IPv4 and IPv6 stack.
•
If HPE SIM 7.4 or higher is already installed, the installer upgrades SIM and all its software.
•
If HPE Insight Control server provisioning is selected as a deployment option, then you must
enter the credentials for the server provisioning server. From the 7.2 release, HPE Insight
Control includes the rights for HPE Insight Control server provisioning, which replaces HP
Insight Control server deployment. Insight Control server provisioning performs multi-server
operating system provisioning to bare metal ProLiant and BladeSystem servers. You can
download the HPE Insight Control server provisioning installation instructions from the HPE
Insight Management downloads website at http://www.hpe.com/info/insightupdates.
HPE Insight Management product summary
7
NOTE: Starting with the 7.3 release, HP Insight Control server deployment, HP Insight Control
server deployment SIM Integration module, and HP Insight Control server deployment Quiesce
SIM Plugin are removed from the DVD. The previously installed version of Insight Control server
deployment, HP Insight Control server deployment SIM Integration module, and Insight Control
server deployment Quiesce SIM Plugin are not upgraded by the Insight Management Installer.
NOTE: HP Insight Control server deployment is no longer available. It has been replaced by
HPE Insight Control server provisioning, which is available as a separate download from http://
www.hpe.com/info/insightupdates. The last released version of HP Insight Control server
deployment was 7.3 Update 1, and support information for that release is contained in the HP
Insight Management 7.3 Update 1 Support Matrix found at http://www.hpe.com/info/
insightcontrol/docs.
NOTE:
HPE Insight Management 7.6 includes all patches released for the previous version.
NOTE: HPE Matrix Operating Environment installation fails in a scenario where the user has
installed .NET 3.5 SP1 and uninstalled .NET 3.0 before initiating the HPE Insight Management
DVD installation. In such a scenario, HPE IO installer fails to install and displays a pop-up
message:Missing software requirements.
NOTE: Microsoft .NET 4.5.2 is required only if you install HPE Storage Provisioning Manager
as a part of Insight Management 7.6.
Approximate installation and upgrade times
Table 1 lists approximate installation and upgrade times for individual Insight Management
products on x86 and x64 operating systems. The times were obtained from a CMS with the
following configuration:
•

If a version prior to 3.70 of server migration is installed, you must uninstall it before installing the new version in Insight
Management 7.6.
If a version prior to 7.3 of the product is installed, you must first upgrade to Insight Software DVD 7.3, then upgrade
to version 7.4, and finally upgrade to 7.6 DVD. Upgrade to the latest version using the latest HPE Insight Management
DVD.
Upgrading HPE Matrix recovery management
If the HPE Matrix recovery management is installed on the CMS, first upgrade the local site and
perform all the required upgrade tasks and optional post-installation tasks. See the Installing or
upgrading HPE Insight Management for upgrade tasks.
For post-installation tasks, see the Optional post-installation configuration chapter. Both local
and remote sites must be upgraded.
NOTE:
The local site is not protected until both the sites are upgraded.
Managing the HPE Operations Orchestration license key manually
HPE Matrix OE infrastructure orchestration 7.6 includes HPE Operations Orchestration 10.60,
which is an upgrade from the 9.07 version included in the 7.5 release. This version of HPE
Operations Orchestration software requires Operating System Instance (OSI) based license
keys. OSI license keys are supplied even though HPE Matrix Operating Environment software
is licensed under a per-server license agreement.
When installed, HPE Operations Orchestration 10.60 has a 90 day trial license, with no difference
from the licensed version. If no license is configured by the time the 90 day trial is completed,
HPE Operations Orchestration will stop working, and HPE Matrix features using OO workflows
will stop working (including sending emails, managing static servers, provisioning ESXi clusters,
and use of attached workflows for solution customization). “Step 11: Activating and installing an
HPE Operations Orchestration license” (page 51) discusses how to activate and install this HPE
Operations Orchestration OSI based license.

Understanding the installation process
2 Installing or upgrading HPE Insight Management
NOTE: When installing on a Japanese operating system, do not use Japanese characters in
the user name, password, or installation path fields.
Before beginning an installation or upgrade, consider the following:
•
Ensure that you have read the HPE Insight Management Installation and Upgrade Release
Notes available at: Hewlett Packard Enterprise Information Library , to gather information
on installation or upgrade issues.
•
Ensure that you have read the prerequisites required for installing HPE Insight Control server
provisioning. The prerequisites are available in the HPE Insight Control Server Provisioning
Installation Guide at http://www.hpe.com/info/insightcontrol/docs
•
Be sure that maintenance activities do not reboot the system during installation.
•
For help information during the installation process, click the ? icon.
•
Use an ISO mounting utility to load both DVDs.
•
To run the installation from hard disk drives, copy the contents of the HPE Insight
Management DVDs to different directories on the hard disk.
•
Because the installation process requires a reboot for completion:
◦
If you plan to install from a shared network drive, map the network drive and select the
reconnect at logon option. You cannot install directly from a shared drive using UNC.
◦
If you install directly from the DVD, do not remove the DVD from the drive until the
installation completes.
◦
If you are using an ISO mounting utility, select the option to reconnect the drives after
reboot (Automount last image).
•
Configure Internet Explorer to show pictures (default setting) before running the Installer.
Select Tools→Internet Options, select the Advanced tab, and then in the Multimedia
section, select Show pictures.
•
To determine which screens Installer displays during your specific installation, based on
whether you are performing a new installation or an upgrade, see the HPE Insight
Management Preinstallation Worksheet.
Pre-upgrade steps
The following sections are applicable in a scenario where HPE Matrix Operating Environment
components are installed on a CMS.
Validating the CMS
To validate the CMS:
•
Create and deploy both physical and virtual logical servers from HPE Matrix OE visualization.
•
Create and deploy both physical and virtual templates from HPE Matrix infrastructure
orchestration.
Verifying the HPE Matrix Operating Environment services
Scan for Java out-of-memory issues
Scan for possible Java out-of-memory messages issued by the HPE Matrix Operating Environment
services. Search for the OutOfMemoryError string in each of the following log files:

2. Select the database that has Recovery Model type other than “SIMPLE”.
3. Right-click and select Properties.
4. Select Options.
5. In Recovery model drop down box choose Simple.
6. Click OK.
Backing up the Central Management Server before you begin an upgrade
Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends backing up the current CMS environment before
beginning an upgrade in the event that you need to restore the environment. For backup
instructions, see “Backing up the CMS” (page 82).
NOTE: Delete excessive events on the CMS. (For example: Run delete events command for
events that are older than 90 Days).
Preparing for HPE Matrix infrastructure orchestration Federated CMS
A federated CMS environment contains one primary CMS running Matrix infrastructure
orchestration, and one or more secondary CMS' running Matrix Operating Environment. In this
12
Installing or upgrading HPE Insight Management
release, Matrix infrastructure orchestration Federated CMS is enabled by default during new
installations, provided that the domain name server is prepared.
In a federated CMS environment, forward DNS lookups resolve CMS hostnames to IP addresses.
Additionally, on the primary CMS, forward and reverse DNS lookups must work for each secondary
CMS. Verify that all DNS lookups can be resolved using the FQDN of each system.
For more information, and for instructions on enabling a federated CMS environment after an
upgrade to 7.6, see the HPE Matrix Operating Environment Logical Server Management User
Guide at Hewlett Packard Enterprise Information Library.
NOTE: If you are upgrading both the operating system version running on the CMS and Insight
Management, ensure that the combination of OS version and HPE Insight Management version
is supported throughout the upgrade process. See the HPE Insight Management Support Matrix
for supported operating system and Insight Management versions.
Consider two possible upgrade scenarios:
•
The source operating system is supported by HPE Insight Management 7.6. In this case,
upgrade Insight Management and then upgrade the operating system. For example, if you
are upgrading Insight Management 7.4 to 7.6 and Windows 2008 to 2012, upgrade Insight
Management to 7.6, then upgrade the operating system to Windows 2012.
•
The source operating system or any other prerequisite (such as a database) is not supported
by Insight Management 7.6. In this case you must perform intermediate upgrade cycles to
reach the target state. For example, if you are upgrading HPE Insight Management 7.3 to
7.6 and Windows 2008 to 2012 R2, first upgrade Windows 2008 R2 to 2012, then upgrade
HPE Insight Management 7.3 to 7.4, then upgrade Windows 2012 to 2012 R2, then upgrade
HPE Insight Management 7.4 to 7.6. You may want to perform a data migration before the
final upgrade to ensure that the target CMS has a fresh operating system installation. See
the Data migration of an existing Microsoft Windows CMS to a new Insight Management 7.5
system white paper for more information.
The Insight Management Installer installs all Insight Management products in a single session
on a single management server. Variations to this installation process might occur under any of
the following scenarios:
Support for a rolling upgrade of a CMS federation
Matrix OE infrastructure orchestration supports a rolling upgrade of a federated CMS environment.
A rolling upgrade temporarily allows a federation containing CMSs running different versions of
Matrix OE during the upgrade process.
During a rolling upgrade, a CMS running a later version of Matrix OE supports basic operations
against a secondary CMS running an earlier version of Matrix OE. Not all new features are
expected to work against an earlier version CMS.
IMPORTANT:
The primary CMS must be upgraded first.
For information about new features that are not supported, see the HPE Matrix Operating
Environment Release Notes available at Hewlett Packard Enterprise Information Library.
Requirements for CMS identification changes
If any of the following key attributes of the CMS operating system needs to be modified after
Insight Management has been installed, use the CMS Reconfigure tool.
The key attributes are:
•
Hostname
•
IP address associated with the hostname
Support for a rolling upgrade of a CMS federation
13
•
Full name or domain (including the fully qualified domain name)
•
DNS entries corresponding to the hostname and domain
If any of these attributes change after Insight Management has been installed and the CMS
Reconfigure tool was not used, many features of the solution fails to function properly. For more
information on how to use CMS Reconfigure tool, see the CMS Reconfigure Tool section in the
HPE Systems Insight Manager User Guide available from the SIM Library, located at http://
www.hpe.com/info/insightmanagement/docs.
Consider using the Data Migration Tool to migrate existing data onto a newly installed CMS that
will use the new hostname or IP address. For more information on how to perform this migration,
see the Data migration of an existing Microsoft Windows CMS to a new Insight Management
system white paper available from the Matrix OE Information Library, located at http://
www.hpe.com/info/insightmanagement/docs.

Click Next.
Go to “Step 5: Installing from HPE Insight Management DVD #2” (page 20).
3.
4.
(Optional) Installing or upgrading HPE Virtual Connect Enterprise Manager in
standalone mode
This option enables you to install only HPE Virtual Connect Enterprise Manager. No other HPE
Insight Management products can be installed at the same time.
A HPE VCEM standalone installation requires a dedicated physical or virtual server to host the
application. This installation type uses a specialized version of SIM that does not support the
installation of additional HPE Insight Management plug-ins.
You can install HPE VCEM in standalone mode if the following conditions are true:
•
If you are performing a new installation.
•
1.
If you are upgrading a version of HPE VCEM originally installed in standalone mode.
When performing a new installation, clear all options on the first installer screen. This allows
you to install HPE VCEM in stand-alone mode.
Click Customize.
Select Install only Virtual Connect Enterprise Manager (Standalone mode).
Click Next. A confirmation message appears asking you to confirm a standalone installation.

Click Next.
NOTE: If you are using an ISO mounting utility and selected Replace DVD #1 by DVD #2 in
the drive during the installation process, either remount the ISO image after reboot or configure
the ISO mounting utility to automatically remount the images.
Step 6: Viewing the prerequisites
The Check for prerequisites screen lists the prerequisites for successful installation of HPE
Insight Management. Your system must meet all these prerequisites, which are based on the
components selected for installation or upgrade. For more information about prerequisites, see
the HPE Insight Management Support Matrix at Hewlett Packard Enterprise Information
Library..
The prerequisites list on the screen includes server, services, database, and application
requirements. To ensure that the hardware and software configurations on the target server meet
the requirements for the products you want to install, run the HPE Insight Management Advisor.
Step 6: Viewing the prerequisites
21
Figure 8 Check for prerequisites
Running HPE Insight Management Advisor again to verify prerequisites for selected
products
After you select the products to install, Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends that you run the
HPE Insight Management Advisor to determine if your system has any requirement issues.
IMPORTANT:
1.
2.
Do not change the CMS IP address.
Click Run the Insight Management Advisor link located at the bottom of the Check for
prerequisites screen.
After running the HPE Insight Management Advisor, resolve any issues the HPE Insight
Management Advisor finds.
If no issues are found, click Next on the Check for prerequisites screen.
Step 7: Selecting the installation directory
HPE Insight Management can only be installed on drives with an 8dot3 filename enabled in
Windows. The 8dot3 filename is enabled on the default drive, which is the C:drive. If you choose
a non-default drive, then use the fsutil command, to check and enable the 8dot3 filename.
For example, before installing HPE Insight Management software on V:drive on a Windows 2012
system, execute the command fsutil 8dot3name set V:0 to enable 8dot3 filename.
The Installation Directory screen enables you to select the installation location for HPE Insight
Management. Selecting a non-default location for the installation files does not have an impact
22
Installing or upgrading HPE Insight Management
on the software performance or behavior. However, the target location must meet the following
requirements:
•
The target directory must be on a local hard disk drive. Some products might not install if
the target directory is a mapped or a shared drive.
•
The target hard disk must have enough temporary space to complete the installation in
addition to the space required for HPE Insight Management products you plan to install. To
determine the disk space you need for HPE Insight Management products, see the HPE
Insight Management Support Matrix.
Figure 9 Installation directory
New installation
Select the installation location by performing one of the following steps:
•
To use the default directory location, click Next.
•
To select a different directory, click Browse, or enter the path in the Installation Directory
field, and then click Next.
Upgrade
For an upgrade scenario, you cannot change the installation directory. If you installed a component
as a standalone previously ((not using the Insight Management Installer), the HPE Insight
Management Installer upgrades that component in the original installation location.
Click Next.
IMPORTANT: The remaining screens in the Installer appear based on the software you chose
to install, and some screens do not appear at all during an upgrade because information previously
entered is reused for the upgrade. Skip the screens that do not apply to your installation.
Step 7: Selecting the installation directory
23
Step 9: Entering service account credentials
The Service account credentials screen allows you to provide the credentials Insight
Management uses as the sign-in credentials for services it creates.

Upgrade
When performing an HPE Insight Management upgrade, use the existing HPE Insight Management
or HPE Systems Insight Manager credentials.
1. Enter the existing service account credentials for HPE Insight Management.
2. Click Next.
Step 10: Configuring a database
HPE Insight Management searches for an existing database on the local system. If a local/remote
database is detected, use this database or enter the credentials for a remote database. The
option to create a new database is disabled when an existing database is detected.
Database considerations:
•
See the HPE Insight Management Support Matrix for the supported combinations of the
CMS, the local and remote database servers, and the local or remote deployment server.
•
Ensure that SQL Server Browser and SQL Agent services are running in the database server
before performing a database connection.
•
When installing in an environment with a previously installed remote database, the current
user running the Insight Management installation must have administrator permissions in
the database.
•
When reusing an existing database installation, the credentials used for database
authentication must be the same as those of the user currently logged in. If HPE SIM is
already installed, you must log in with the same credentials used for database authentication
in HPE SIM.
•
When using database-named instances, you must have fixed port numbers, not dynamic
port numbers.
•
When using an existing database, you must verify the TCP/IP protocol is enabled. Verify
your configuration by opening the Microsoft SQL Server Configuration Manager and navigating
to SQL Server Network Configuration→Protocols for SQLEXPRESS and enable TCP/IP
protocol.
•
You can install multiple instances of Microsoft SQL Server. If you are running the HPE Insight
Management Installer, exit it. Then, run the Microsoft SQL Server installer and follow the
onscreen instructions.
•
HPE Insight Management requires a non-binary collation mode for Microsoft SQL Server
database.
•
If you are installing HPE Matrix infrastructure orchestration, the database password cannot
contain a space. If you need to change your password, see the HPE Systems Insight Manager
User Guide at the following website:
http://www.hpe.com/info/insightmanagement/sim/docs.
Step 10: Configuring a database
25

2.
3.
Select an option.
Enter the appropriate user credentials. If you are using an existing database, provide the
server and database information.
Click Next.
Upgrade
If you have previously used Microsoft SQL Express 2008 R2 Express SP2, the database is
upgraded to Microsoft SQL Express 2014 as part of the HPE SIM upgrade. This SQL Express
upgrade is required to upgrade Insight Management.
1. If a local/remote database is detected, enter the credentials for the existing database.
2. Click Next. A message appears providing some information about dynamic ports. This
message is informational and does not indicate that dynamic ports are being used.
IMPORTANT: If a supported version of SQL Server is not installed, a message appears
informing you of the impending database upgrade. Accept the upgrade to continue to install
HPE Insight Management. Alternatively, instead of automatically upgrading the database
during the HPE Insight Management installation, you can reject the database upgrade (which
cancels the Insight Management installation). You can then manually upgrade to a supported
version of database software before restarting the HPE Insight Management Installer.
Step 11: Setting automatic sign-in credentials
The Automatic sign-in configuration screen appears only if HPE Systems Insight Manager is
installed or upgraded because these applications require a reboot during the installation process.
26
Installing or upgrading HPE Insight Management
Figure 12 Automatic sign-in configuration
(Optional) Enabling automatic sign-in after the installation reboot
NOTE: When installing via Remote Desktop and using automatic sign-in to reboot to the original
installation session, you must include the /admin or /console switch to reconnect remotely
through the remote desktop after the system reboot. In addition, the system uses the native
screen resolution of the local operating system which might cause changes in screen resolution
after the reboot when accessing the CMS through Remote Desktop. To avoid these changes,
verify that the Remote Desktop resolution is the same as the resolution of the CMS operating
system.
1.
Check Enable Automatic sign-in.
By default, Enable Automatic sign-in is checked. This option is useful for a successful
installation process without user intervention because it avoids the post-reboot manual
sign-in to the system during the installation process.
When checked the system logs on to the operating system after the reboot by using the
credentials entered.
2.
Enter the password of the user currently signed in.
The values in the User name and Domain fields cannot be changed because the user who
logged in when the installation was started must also be the user who logs on after the
automatic reboot.
IMPORTANT: When installing or upgrading on a Japanese operating system, use Roman
characters for all user name, password, and installation path fields.
3.
Click Next.
Step 11: Setting automatic sign-in credentials
27
Step 12: Setting a proxy configuration
The Proxy configuration (optional) screen enables you to enter proxy settings if your network
requires proxy server to access the Internet.
Only Microsoft Proxy Server is tested and supported, and only basic authentication for Internet
proxy servers is supported. The use of Internet proxy server scripts and full NTLM authentication
are not supported.
The HPE Insight Management Update utility accesses the Hewlett Packard Enterprise website
and compares the version numbers of the installed software with the version numbers of the
latest available software. If your environment requires proxy settings and they are not set, this
task fails.
Figure 13 Proxy configuration (optional)
1.
If your network requires a proxy server to access the Internet, select I use an HTTP proxy
server, and then enter the proxy host and proxy port information.
NOTE:
2.
HPE Insight Management Installer supports IPv4 as a valid IP address.
(Optional) My proxy requires authentication is only available when I use an HTTP proxy
server is selected. If My proxy requires authentication is selected, enter the proxy user
name and proxy password.
NOTE: When installing or upgrading on a Japanese operating system, use Roman
characters for all user name, password, and installation path fields.
3.
Click Next.
NOTE: These proxy settings are specific to the HPE Insight Management upgrade scenario.
Some HPE Insight Management components might be affected by a system-wide proxy
configuration (configured in Internet Explorer Proxy Settings).
Step 13: Setting Product title configuration
The Product title configuration (optional) screen enables you to customize the default product
title displayed on the login screen.
28
Installing or upgrading HPE Insight Management
The product title configuration screen is displayed only when SIM is selected during installation.
The values entered as part of the banner settings in the Product title configuration page are

Step 17: Selecting the sub-range addresses for HPE Virtual Connect
Enterprise Manager
In the HPE VCEM Range Selection screen, you must select one of the 128 sub-range addresses
for both MAC and WWN, only if you are planning to install multiple instances of CMS under the
same administration. This prevents the different VCEM instances from using MACs/WWNs which
belong to other VCEM instances. This also results in automatic creation of VCEM exclusion
ranges for MACs/WWNs which do not belong to a particular VCEM instance.
For more information on sub-range addresses, see the HPE Virtual Connect Enterprise Manager
User Guide.
30

The Discovery process
The first steps to finishing your installation consist of creating and running discovery tasks.
Discovery is the process of finding servers and other hardware devices in the SIM management
domain so you can manage them from the CMS. To discover server and hardware devices, you
must define and set up tasks to discover the devices, supplying the appropriate credentials for
the discovery process to access and discover them, and then run the discovery tasks.
NOTE: A single CMS can manage multiple VM hosts. Also, more than one CMS can manage
the same VM host. However, Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends that you manage one
VM host with one CMS at a time.
Step 1: Defining discovery tasks
For best results, Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends creating the following discovery tasks,
and running them sequentially in the suggested order. You may want to create multiple tasks for
certain types, such as servers, grouping them so that systems with the same credentials are in
the same discovery tasks, with up to three sets of credentials supplied in each discovery task.
This reduces the chance of account lockout when an invalid credential is tried too many times.
Table 10 Discovery tasks
Order
Task
Description
1
Central Management Server
(CMS)
Discovers HPE Systems Insight Manager CMS and its management
processor (if the CMS has a management processor).
2
Onboard Administrator
Discovers the Onboard Administrator for every enclosure to be managed.
When specifying credentials for this task, you must also include the
management processor (iLO) credentials for every blade in the enclosures
associated with the Onboard Administrators.
3
Management Processors
Discovers all management processors not discovered in the previous
tasks. This includes iLOs and management processors for all non-blade
systems.
4
Physical Servers
Discovers physical servers (blades, standalones). You must run onboard
administrator and management processor discovery tasks before running
this one.
5
Virtual Machines
Discovers virtual machines associated with servers discovered in the
physical servers discovery task.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends that you create multiple discovery tasks to simplify
troubleshooting if you encounter errors. However, if you have a small network, an alternate way
of setting up your discovery tasks is to create a single task with one IP address range and all of
the required credentials for the systems in that range.
The Discovery process
45
To define a discovery task:
1. If you are not already at the Discovery page, use one of the following methods to navigate
there:
•
In the Finish the Installation area on the Systems Insight Manager home page, click
Configure discovery and credentials.
•
From the HPE Systems Insight Manager GUI, select Options→Discovery menu.
2.
3.
At the bottom of the screen, click New... to define a new discovery task.
Do the following to define a discovery task:
a. Under the New Discovery area, select Discover a group of systems.
b. Provide a unique, intuitive name in the Name: field to identify the discovery task, for
example, "iLO discovery" for the iLO discovery task or "WinProLiant discovery" for the
Windows ProLiant discovery task.
c. Under the Schedule area, clear Automatically execute discovery every: because
you do not want to schedule the discovery task at this time. If you have entered an IP
range and want HPE SIM to periodically check for new systems added to the network
in that range, configure how frequently you want this discovery task to be run.
d. In the Ping inclusion ranges, system (hosts) names, and/or hosts files text box,
enter the IP address, host name or IP address range of the products you are discovering.
IP addresses must be in the format; nn.nn.nn.nn. Use a hyphen to indicate an IP address
range.
4.
Click Credentials... to specify sign-in and SNMP credentials for the discovery task.
You must supply credentials so that the discovery process can access your managed systems
and devices. The discovery tries each set of credentials until it finds a set that works.
5.
On the Sign In tab:
a. Enter the name of an existing user account.
b. Enter the password for this user account.
c. Click Add to add more user credentials.
d. Repeat these steps to continue adding as many user credentials as required. If you
specify multiple sets of credentials, Systems Insight Managertries each set of credentials
in order until it finds the credentials that work for a given product.
NOTE:
6.
The maximum number of user credentials that can be added is 10.
Click the SNMP tab:
a. Enter a value in the Read community string: text box that is appropriate for your
network configuration. This value is case-sensitive; public is the most commonly used
string.
SNMP requests use the community string that provides a successful response. If you
have SNMP-enabled servers with read community strings that do not match the strings
entered, those servers are not discovered.
b.
c.
7.
8.
Click Add.
Repeat these steps to continue adding as many strings as needed.
Click OK when you have finished entering credentials to return to the Discovery page.
Click Configure/Repair... to configure managed systems to communicate with the CMS in
order to launch commands to the managed systems. You can keep the default settings, but
you might have to enter credentials for a privileged user. For more information about how
to enter credentials, see Step 4.
After discovering management processors, select Configure→Configure or Repair
Agents.... Specify “All Management Processors” as the target. Do not select anything on
46
Finishing the HPE Insight Management installation
the Install Providers and Agents (Optional) screen. On the Configure or Repair Settings
screen, uncheck everything except Configure secure shell and Trust by Certificate. Then,
specify user credentials to enable SIM to sign-in to and configure the management processors
with these settings.
9. Click OK when you are done to return to the Systems Insight Manager Discovery page.
10. Click Save to save the discovery task.
Repeat this procedure to create as many discovery tasks as required.
Step 2: Running discovery tasks
You should run the discovery tasks in the order specified in “Step 1: Defining discovery tasks”
(page 45). Typical errors due to running discovery tasks in an improper order include:
•
Association errors
Can occur, for example if a server is not associated with a processor or a virtual machine
management is not associated with a virtual machine management host.
•
Credentials errors
Can occur when a discovery task triggers discovery of associated systems or processors
and the credentials for the associated systems are not supplied. If you discover these
associated systems with a subsequent discovery task containing the proper credentials,
they should then complete successfully.
After running a discovery task, you must review the task results output and resolve the issues.
The Insight managed system setup wizard cannot be successful if discovery failures are not
addressed.
Failures might include DNS resolution errors, missing serial numbers, and missing UUIDs.
To run the new discovery task or tasks you defined:
1. On the HPE Systems Insight Manager Discovery page, select the discovery task you want
to run. The newest tasks are listed at the top of the discovery task table.
2. Click Run Now to start the discovery process.
3. When a discovery task is complete, click View Task Results... to ensure that all actions
were successful. Use the task results output to identify and resolve failures that might have
occurred.
4. Repeat this procedure for each discovery task you defined. Do not continue with a discovery
task until each discovery action is successful.
Step 3: Validating discovery results
When validating discovery results, consider the following:
•
Ensure the model number, operating system and proper system name are discovered. This
information can be scanned quickly using the system list.
•
Ensure the correct credentials are being used for a system. To verify, go to
Options→Security→Credentials.
To validate discovery results:
1. After discovering OAs, select All Systems in the left navigation pane to confirm that the
enclosures, racks, and servers have been discovered.
2. Confirm that the iLO management processor and servers have been discovered and that
blade servers appear with the appropriate enclosure association.
3. If a server has an installed OS, confirm that the server's host name appears correctly.
4. If a server does not have an OS installed, confirm the serial number is displayed.
Step 2: Running discovery tasks
47
Step 4: Setting up managed systems with the HPE Insight managed
system setup wizard
Managed system setup includes installing agent software, applying licenses, and configuring
options specific to the management capabilities intended for use on the managed system. The
Insight managed system setup wizard leads you through these setup tasks.
This section provides basic steps on using the HPE Insight managed system setup wizard. For
detailed information, see the HPE Insight Managed System Setup Wizard Getting Started Guide

Click Run Now to begin the configuration.
Step 5: Rescaling Stored CPU Utilization data in HPE Capacity Advisor
(Only if upgrading)
A new copy of the Performance Index Database, which holds server performance benchmarks,
is installed whenever you upgrade HPE Insight Management.
The Performance Index Database is used in pre-scaling the CPU utilization data that is stored
for capacity planning. After an HPE Insight Management upgrade, some of the data must be
recomputed and re-scaled. This process can take a long time if there is a large history of utilization
data.
In HPE Insight Management 7.6,recomputing task is performed after the rest of the Insight
Management upgrade is complete and the CMS is back online. This change was made to reduce
the downtime of the CMS. Although new Capacity Advisor data is not collected while the
recomputing process runs, the rest of Insight Management and the Matrix Operating Environment
are available.
To recompute the utilization data, follow these steps:
48
Finishing the HPE Insight Management installation

Wait until the HPE Insight Management upgrade is complete.
The time of day to perform the recomputing task is flexible. Pick a time when Capacity Advisor
data collection can be suspended.
2.
3.
4.
Log in to the CMS console.
Navigate to C:\Program Files\HP\Virtual Server Environment\bin\.
Recompute the data by running capupgrade.bat.
The recomputing process:
•
Stops Capacity Advisor data collection.
•
Determines the data to be recomputed.
•
Copies the new Performance Index Database.
•
Recomputes the pre-scaled data.
•
Restarts the Capacity Advisor data collection service.
Recomputing can take several hours to run, depending on the number of systems and the amount
of collected data. The text output for capupgrade provides an estimate of the time.
The example below shows capupgrade being run on a CMS with 20 servers.
C:\Program Files\HP\Virtual Server Environment\bin>capupgrade

The HPE Matrix Operating Environment allows the storage requests to be dynamically addressed
using the HPE SPM (HPE Storage Provisioning Manager software). HPE SPM responds to
storage service requests – either by matching up existing storage resources or by dynamically
provisioning resources to meet these service requests. To use this functionality, you must configure
the SPM storage catalog, that is, set up storage access rights, configure storage templates, and
import storage resources into the catalog. For more information on setting up HPE SPM for use
in the Matrix Operating Environment, see the HPE Storage Provisioning Manager (SPM) User
Guide at: Hewlett Packard Enterprise Information Library. .

guides. For more information, see the HPE Virtual Connect Enterprise Manager User Guide.
CMS operating system identification must not be changed
Several key attributes of the CMS operating system must not be modified after Insight Management
has been installed.
The key attributes are:
•
hostname
•
IP address associated with the hostname
•
full name or domain (including the fully qualified domain name)
•
DNS entries corresponding to the hostname and domain
If any of these attributes are changed after the Insight Management has been installed, many
features of the solution will fail to function properly.
Suggested action: Verify that the identified attributes are correct before installation. If any of
these attributes requires modification after installation, you will need to install a new CMS.
Optionally, if only the hostname or IP address of the CMS needs to be modified, you can consider
using the Data Migration Tool to migrate existing data onto a newly installed CMS.
Configuring VMware vCenter settings
This task is required if you are managing VMware ESX hosts and virtual machines.
You must perform this task for new installations and for upgrades from a version of virtual machine

Configuring HPE Insight Control virtual machine management to manage
virtual machine hosts behind a firewall
When managing virtual machine hosts behind a firewall, the firewall must be configured to enable
virtual machine management traffic through the firewall. The following ports are used for:
NOTE:
All the ports used are registered with Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA).
•
For communication between the browsers and the HPE SIM, HTTPS over port 50000 is
utilized.
•
For communication between the web service and the virtual machine management service
(both on the SIM CMS), SSL over port 40420 is utilized.
•
For communication between the virtual machine management service and virtual machine
management agent (on virtual machine hosts), SSL over ports 1125 and 1126 is utilized.
•
For communication between the virtual machine management agent during a move or copy,
SSL over port 1126 is utilized.

of cooling the system compared to the cost of powering the system. The default value
of 1.5 indicates that it costs 1.5 as much to cool the system as it does to power the
system. This value is multiplied by the kilowatt-hours used by the system to obtain the
cooling kilowatt-hours that are used in the Analysis section of graphs that display power
consumption.
•
Power Line Voltage. Select the power line voltage. This option calculates the consumed
amperage that is displayed in the Power/Thermal Analysis views and Analysis section
of graphs.

of Power per kWh, Currency Type, Cooling Multiplier, and Power Line Voltage options are
set for each user and the settings can vary from one user to another.
5.
The rated capacity of a power delivery device is the absolute maximum load supported by
the device in amperes. In some localities, electrical codes dictate that only a percentage of
this rated capacity can be utilized to satisfy a continuous load. The default Derating
Percentage identifies the portion of the rated capacity of a power delivery device that must
be reserved when calculating the maximum continuous load supported by a power delivery
device. Insight Control power management utilizes this value to calculate the maximum
usable power capacity of the power delivery device. You can select one of the following:
•
NA/JP. Select this if you are managing systems in North America or Japan which require
a derating of 20%. This is the default option.
•
None. Select this if no derating is required in your locality.
•
Custom. Select this to specify a custom derating percentage other than 20%.
NOTE: Users with operator, user, or none template rights can only view and modify the
Derating Percentage configuration of the Insight Control power management Options
page.

number of power management and any iLO that the power management communicates
with, should be same.
NOTE: If a non-standard SSL port is configured in the Insight Control power management
Options page, it must be updated in the Systems Insight Manager web service properties
file available at SIM INSTALLED LOCATION\config\identification\additionalWsDisc.props.
Failure to do so might result in Systems Insight Manager being unable to correctly identify
management processors using the changed SSL port number. For more information, see
SIM INSTALLED LOCATION\config\identification\additionalWsDisc_README.txt. You also
need to configure the non-standard SSL port on the management processors.
7.
Use HPE Systems Insight Manager's sign-in credentials to configure user name and password
pairs that will be used for iLO and Onboard Administrator access.
If you want to use credentials other than the Systems Insight Manager's sign-in credentials,
you can use power management's Default Management Processor Access Credentials
option to configure user name and password pairs that will be used for iLO and Onboard
Administrator access. The following options are available:
•
User Name. Enter the user names used to connect to the iLO/Onboard Administrator
for the managed systems. You can enter up to five user name and password pairs in
the Default 1-5 fields. If there are more than five iLOs available, which require different
credentials, you can overwrite the existing credentials in the Default 1-5 fields to assign
new credentials to the other iLOs.
NOTE: User name can be a short name or a fully-qualified domain name and cannot
be in the formats: userlogin@domain and domain/userlogin.
•
Password. Enter the password for the iLO/Onboard Administrator of the managed
system named previously.
•
Confirm password. Re-enter the password exactly as you entered it in the Password
field.
NOTE: HPE Insight Control power management tries each name and password pair on
managed systems until it accesses the power data.
NOTE: HPE Insight Control power management allows you to configure five credentials
to communicate with iLO/Onboard Administrator. When the credentials are not configured,
power management uses SSH credentials configured in HPE Systems Insight Manager. If
this fails, power management uses the Sign-in credentials of HPE Systems Insight Manager.
8.
Default Power Management Data Expiration Settings enable you to configure the time
to keep the historical data.
In the first Remove data older than list, select the number that corresponds with a time
span to be selected in the second list. For example, specifying Remove data older than 6
Month(s) would delete all data older than six months.

Switch between HPE Server Automation (SA) cores
IO 7.2 supports Insight Control server deployment 7.2 by default. To configure any version
of SA support, copy the client library from the Server Automation core:
a. Replace the file opswclient.jar from the 9.x SA Core found at <SIM Installation
Directory>\lib\ with the file of the same name from the SA Core to be configured
with installed Matrix Operating Environment. The location of opswclient.jar can be found
on the SA Core at /opt/opsware/da/webapps/arm/WEB-INF/lib/
opswclient.jar and at /opt/opsware/twist/extlib/client/
opswclient.jar.
To replace the opswclient.jar file with one copied from your SA core server using secure
copy, enter the following two commands at the CMS command line:
NOTE: The user must have write credentials for the lib directory, and remember to
include the space and period at the end of the second command. If you backup the
local opswclient.jar file before using secure copy, you must move the backup copy
out of the lib directory.

c.
Remove the existing SA Core credentials and add the new SA Core credentials to the
SIM server using the mxnodesecurity utility.
Restart the HPE Systems Insight Manager Windows service.
Performing server migrations
If you installed HPE Insight Control server migration, you can use it to migrate an operating
system, applications, and data from one server to another, instead of manually redeploying these
elements on a new server.
You can perform the following server migrations using HPE Insight Control server migration:
•
Physical-to-ProLiant (P2P)—Migrates a physical machine to a ProLiant server
•
Physical-to-virtual (P2V)—Migrates a physical machine to a virtual machine guest in a
virtual machine host
•
Virtual-to-ProLiant (V2P)—Migrates a virtual machine guest in a virtual machine host to a
ProLiant server
•
Virtual-to-virtual (V2V)—Migrates a virtual machine guest between virtualization layers
Here is a synopsis of the steps you must perform for server migration; the order of these steps
vary depending on the migration type. For complete information about performing server
migrations, see the HPE Insight Control Server Migration User Guide at the following website:

Configuring HPE Insight Management for large environments
When utilizing HPE Insight Management to manage many devices (physical and virtual), it
becomes necessary to perform optimization adjustments on both the Windows OS and various
HPE Insight Management components. If the current number of managed devices exceeds
roughly three-fourths of the maximum number of supported devices as specified in the HPE
Insight Management Support Matrix, Hewlett Packard Enterprise strongly recommends that the
following optimization changes be carried out in order to maintain optimal CMS performance.
NOTE:
32-bit CMS is not supported.
Virtual Server Environment Configuration Parameters
Increase Logical Server Automation Service Heap Space
On large scale systems (on a 64-bit CMS), the HPE Logical Server Automation service may run
out of memory and display an out of memory error in the <InstallPath>\Virtual Server
Environment\logs\hp_lsa_service.log file. The error is similar to the following example:
INFO | jvm 1 | 2010/03/08 19:15:14 |
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: GC overhead limit exceeded
In order to prevent this, Hewlett Packard Enterprise suggests that the Logical Server Automation
service configuration file be modified to increase memory allocation as follows:
1. Locate the configuration file in the default location at <InstallPath>\Virtual Server
Environment\conf\lsa\hp_lsa_service.conf.
2. Edit the file and increase the value of wrapper.java.maxmemory=1024. Hewlett Packard
Enterprise suggests a value of 2048 for this setting.
3. Locate two available wrapper.java.additional.<n> setting (where n is an integer),
and create or change the existing values to the following:
wrapper.java.additional.<n> = -XX:PermSize=64m
wrapper.java.additional.<n> = -XX:MaxPermSize=254m
4.
5.
6.
Locate the configuration file in the location at C:\Program Files\HP\Insight Control
virtual machine management\bin\windows\Hpvmmsvc.conf.
Edit the file and change the value of wrapper.java.maxmemory to 2048.
Locate and edit the <InstallPath>\Virtual Server Environment\conf\lsa
lsa.properties file and set the following values:
NUM_REFRESH_WORKER_THREADS_VM=30
NUM_REFRESH_WORKER_THREADS_HOST=15
NUM_WORKER_THREADS_VMM_EVENTS=30
REFRESHER_DELAY_MS= 1440000
7.
Restart the Logical Server Automation service:
From the Windows Start menu, select Administrative Tools—>Services, look for HPE
Logical Server Automation, and restart the service.
Configuring HPE Insight Management for large environments
59
NOTE: When modifying the Logical Server Automation service configuration file
wrapper.java.additional settings, care must be taken to avoid disturbing existing
settings. Note lines that are in use and take care leave them intact. Lines that are commented
out with a pound symbol (#) are available for use, but be aware that by un-commenting a
wrapper.java.additional.<n> line, you may inadvertently be activating an already
existing setting of the same name. This could have unforeseen consequences unless care
is taken to preserve the sequential numbering of the wrapper.java.additional statements.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise strongly recommends that a backup is created of all files prior
to their modification.
Decrease TcpTimedWaitDelay
When managing a large number of devices with HPE Insight Management, the CMS opens many
network connections during the various polling and communications tasks. When a TCP connection
is initiated, used, and closed, a standard interval of time must pass between the time the
connection is closed and the resources are released. Once the connection is released, it can be
used to create a new connection.
When polling and communicating with a very large number of systems, there is a possibility that
opening new connections will be attempted even though the previous closed connections aren’t
yet available. In order to avoid this, Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends that you change
the TcpTimedWait delay from the default 240 seconds (0xfe) to 120 seconds (0x78).
1. From the Windows Start menu, select Run, enter regedit.exe in the dialog and click OK.
2. Once the registry editor has been displayed, locate the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\Tcpip\Parameters
and change the TcpTimedWaitDelay dword value to 0x78.
NOTE: Problems may occur if the registry is modified incorrectly. Always be sure to follow
steps carefully and back up the registry before making modifications.
HPE Matrix infrastructure orchestration parameters
When utilizing HPE Matrix infrastructure orchestration in larger environments, Hewlett Packard
Enterprise recommends that the following changes be made in order to optimize performance.
Increase the timeout values for specific Matrix IO operations
1. Edit the <InstallPath>\Matrix infrastructure
orchestration\conf\hpio.properties file.
2. Locate timeout.get.subnets and change to a value of 30.
3. Locate timeout.update.subnet and change to a value of 30.
4. Locate timeout.get.serverpools and change to a value of 30.
5. Locate timeout.get.vmhost and change to a value of 30.
6. Locate timeout.get.vmtemplates and change to a value of 30.
7. Restart the HPE Matrix infrastructure orchestration service
From the Windows Start menu, select Administrative Tools->Services, look for HPE Matrix
infrastructure orchestration, and restart the service.
Recommended Server Pools and Templates Configuration
•
VM Templates:
It is recommended that the software template to be used for HPE IO deployment should be
located into the same storage volume that is configured to be the target of the IO server
deployments . i.e.: If using IO to provision logical servers on an ESX host that has two
datastores, one is a SAN volume and the other is a local disk. If IO will be used to provision
on the SAN volume, the VM template should be copied to the SAN volume.
60
Optional post-installation configuration
This will significantly reduce the overall provisioning time, since no network file transfers will
be required.
•
Server Pools:
To improve the performance of the allocation mechanism of IO, it´s recommended that only
one server should reside in a single user pool. Having more than one server per pool should
reduce the allocation and reservation process.
Recommended number of concurrent requests
Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends to users that in order to avoid unexpected issues and
slowdowns on the overall performance of the CMS, to not to exceed the 12 concurrent requests
limit.
HPE Matrix infrastructure orchestration configuration parameters
When utilizing Matrix infrastructure orchestration in larger environments, Hewlett Packard
Enterprise recommends that you make the following changes to the Matrix infrastructure
orchestration configuration file to increase memory allocation and optimize performance.
1. Edit the <InstallPath>\Matrix infrastructure orchestration\conf\
hpio.conf file.
2. Edit and increase the value of wrapper.java.maxmemory=1024 file. Hewlett Packard
Enterprise suggests a value of 2048 for this setting.
3. Restart the Matrix infrastructure orchestration service.
From the Windows Start menu, select Administrative Tools→Services, look for HPE
Matrix infrastructure orchestration, and restart the service.
HPE Storage Provisioning Manager (SPM) Adapter for EMC Symmetrix
VMAX
In 7.6 Matrix OE, the HPE SPM adapter for EMC Symmetrix VMAX storage supports storage
operations for discovering arrays and reading pool and volume information, create/delete volumes,
grow volume, and volume presentations on a given host using FC interface. This enables SPM
to import EMC volumes into the storage catalog which can be used to fulfill storage requests for
logical servers.
Enabling and Disabling the HPE SPM adapter for EMC Symmetrix VMAX
The HPE SPM adapter for EMC Symmetrix VMAX storage array must be enabled after the
installation, otherwise SPM does not allow you to perform import operations on the EMC Symmetrix
VMAX arrays. Enabling the adapter allows you to import the EMC Symmetrix VMAX arrays into
the SPM catalog. This automatically includes property information regarding the volumes and
storage pools chosen for import. The following subsections provide details for enabling and
disabling the adapter.
NOTE: HPE SPM operations result from creating a storage pool entry for fulfillment through
HPE SPM or from provisioning a logical server (directly or from a Matrix service template), which
uses HPE SPM storage. Enabling or disabling the adapter results in a stop and restart of the
SPM service. This may affect ongoing SPM operations. It is recommended to enable or disable
the adapter when there are no SPM jobs running.
Enabling the adapter
To enable the adapter perform the following steps:
1. Change directory to the adapter install path. For example, C:\Program Files\HP\
Storage Provisioning Manager\EMCSymmVMAX.
HPE Matrix infrastructure orchestration configuration parameters
61
2.
Execute the batch script adapaterController.bat using the command
AdapterController.bat enable.
The AdapterController.bat file ensures that the SPM service restarts. When the SPM
service restarts, it detects the new adapter and allows you to select it within the Import Array
Wizard and thus imports the EMC Symmetrix VMAX arrays. You must configure the EMC
array credentials.
The EMC adapter is detected by the HPE SPM, when the service is restarted.
Disabling the adapter
Before disabling the adapter, perform the following steps:
1. Deactivate services created for volume creation and/or volume presentations.
2. Remove the EMC Symmetrix VMAX array from the SPM catalog, if it is imported. This avoids
errors in the HPE SPM during its periodic RefreshResources operations on the imported
array objects.
Disable the adapter by executing the AdapterController.bat file located at the following
adapter install path:
1. Change directory to adapter install path. For example, C:\Program Files\HP\Storage
Provisioning Manager\EMCSymmVMAX
2. Execute the batch script adapaterController.bat using the command
AdapterController.bat disable.
After the adapter is disabled, the AdapterController.bat file stops execution and restarts
the HPE SPM service.
Configuring HPE SPM Adapter for EMC Symmetrix VMAX component
The HPE SPM Adapter for EMC Symmetrix VMAX must be installed and enabled for SPM to
allow you to perform import operations on the EMC Symmetrix VMAX arrays. The adapter makes
various default choices to which you must adjust the configurations. For example, if all the ports
of the EMC array are not physically connected to the Virtual Connect modules and intended for
Matrix/SPM use, or if HP-UX is being used in the environment. The following sections outline
several items the administrator can configure in the EmcSymmetrixVMaxAdapter.exe.config
file located at \plugins\storage_adapters\EMCSymmVMAX. For example, C:\Program
Files\HP\Storage Provisioning Manager\plugins\storage_adapters\
EMCSymmVMAX.
Setting EMC SMI-S Credentials
You must provide details such as the port number of EMC SMI-S Provider service, the user name
and password for the EMC SMI-S credentials used during the array discovery operation that
includes EMC array management server on which the EMC SMI-S Provider service is running.
The default adapter configuration includes the port number of the EMC SMI-S Provider service,
which is set to the default SMI-S secure port:
<add key = "Port" value = "5989"/>.
With the default adapter configuration, the HPE SPM administrator must provide the EMC SMI-S
credentials to the HPE SPM GUI during the import array operation (the default port value is visible
on the HPE SPM GUI, other fields such as host, user, and password are set to blank). After you
successfully discover the array, the most recently used credentials are stored into a data file
located under state folder in the HPE SPM install path. For example, C:\Program Files\
HP\Storage Provisioning Manager. For all the subsequent import array operations, you
must re-enter the previous values of host, port, username, and password.
62
Optional post-installation configuration
Setting HTTP Timeout
Another parameter, which you must configure is the Http Timeout value. This value indicates
the time (in milliseconds) that the adapter waits for a response from the EMC array. The default
is 5 minutes. <!-- Http Timeout in milliseconds
<add key = "HttpTimeout" value = "300000"/>
You can increase this value if your environment results in an HPE SPM timeout errors on SPM
interface or SPM log, when accessing the adapter.
Setting EMC Director Ports
You must configure the SPM adapter for EMC Symmetrix VMAX storage array after it is installed
and enabled. Otherwise, by default, HPE SPM zones to all target controller (director) ports on
the EMC Symmetrix VMAX array for a given fabric, which might result in errors. There are some
special considerations for use by the HP-UX host mode. For more information, see the section
“Setting Flags on EMC Director Ports” (page 63). The storage administrator decides the
appropriate degree of sharing the EMC array (perhaps Matrix is using a specific subset of director
ports), and ensures appropriate physical connectivity from the Virtual Connect modules through
the SAN to the appropriate director ports. These ports must be configured for the HPE SPM
adapter through the EmcSymmetrixVMaxAdapter.exe.config file located at C:\Program
Files\HP\Storage Provisioning Manager\plugins\storage_adapters\
EMCSymmVMAX.
If individual ports are allowed from different directors, then administrators must configure this by
specifying the individual ports separated by a colon (:), as shown in the following example:
<add key = "AllowedTargetPorts" value = "FA-8E+1:FA-9E+0"/>
This configuration enables the adapter to use the configured ports (FA-8E:1 and FA-9E:0), while
presenting a volume to a host and performing SAN zoning in a Brocade SAN environment.
The administrator can specify one or more director ports as a list, each separated by a colon
(:). For example, if director 8E, with both port 0 and port 1 enabled, is allowed to be used by
Matrix/SPM, then administrator can configure this as shown in the following example:
<add key = "AllowedTargetPorts" value = "FA-8E"/>
This configuration enables the adapter to use both 8E:0 and 8E:1 ports while presenting a volume
to a host and/or performing zoning in a Brocade SAN environment.
The default value for target ports is set to the empty string (implying all target ports):
<add key = "AllowedTargetPorts" value = ""/>
The administrator must restrict this to the subset connected physically. Else, the HPE SPM
adapter presents and zones to all of the EMC ports on the appropriate fabric. This assumes equal
use of all the allowed ports.
If HP-UX is used, then it is necessary to ensure that the Matrix requests for volumes with an
HP-UX host mode are fulfilled using EMC ports, with VSA (Volume Set Addressing) flag enabled.
For more information, see the section “Setting Flags on EMC Director Ports” (page 63). If some
requests are for HP-UX host mode and some are for other host modes (Windows and Linux) that
cannot be fulfilled using ports with VSA enabled, then it is necessary to ensure that suitable ports
are used. For more information, see the “Using Suitable EMC Ports for Provisioning” (page 64)
section.
NOTE: SPM operations result from creating a storage pool entry for fulfillment through SPM
or provisioning a logical server manually or automatically from a Matrix infrastructure orchestration
service template.
Setting Flags on EMC Director Ports
The EMC director ports that the SPM adapter uses must have fiber channel (FC) cable connections
to a SAN switch and the ACLX flag on each of these ports must be enabled.
Configuring HPE SPM Adapter for EMC Symmetrix VMAX component
63
You must enable the VSA (Volume Set Addressing) flag on the ports to support hosts running
HP-UX. To support Windows, Linux, VMware, or other operating systems, the VSA flag must be
disabled on the ports. The “Using Suitable EMC Ports for Provisioning” (page 64) section provides
information about pure and mixed mode environments, such as all ports with VSA flag enabled,
some ports with VSA flag enabled, and some ports with VSA flag disabled.
Typically, the EMC administrator sets the flags on one or more ports by using EMC native tools
(SMC and SYMCLI).
Using Suitable EMC Ports for Provisioning
The configuration outlined in the Setting EMC Director Ports section assumes equal use of all
the allowed ports. If you use HP-UX, then ensure that Matrix requests for volumes with an HP-UX
host mode are fulfilled using EMC ports, with VSA flag enabled. If all ports using Matrix/SPM
support VSA and all requests are for HP-UX host mode, then you can follow the approach
mentioned in the “Setting EMC Director Ports” (page 63) section. If some requests are for HP-UX
host mode and some are for other host modes, such as Windows or Linux, which cannot be
fulfilled using ports with VSA enabled, then you must use ports suitable for that particular operating
system.
You can accomplish this by manually creating the Matrix storage pool entries and choosing the
HPE SPM candidates from the EMC array and selecting suitable ports for each of the volume’s
paths (VSA enabled for HP-UX, VSA disabled for other host modes). This requires the
administrator to know which ports are suitable for HP-UX systems to use. If Matrix fails to find a
suitable storage pool entry, it auto-generates an entry and fulfills the storage requests through
HPE SPM. The storage may or may not be using an appropriate port in such mixed mode
environments. If you use a wrong port, the administrator manually adjusts the storage to a suitable
port and HPE SPM re-presents the storage using the HPE SPM adapter for EMC Symmetrix
VMAX.
NOTE:
This must be detected and corrected prior to storage use.
An alternate solution is to ensure that Matrix does not auto-generate a storage pool entry, but
provides pause provisioning, if a suitable storage pool entry is not found. To do this, use storage
tags that are available at the Matrix infrastructure orchestration and storage pool level, but not
at the HPE SPM level. A matrix service template specifies a tag, which can be either on an HP-UX
or Windows operating system and used when searching for suitable storage pool entries. The
corresponding tag is on manually created storage pool entries, but not on any resources within
HPE SPM. The timing of applying the tag to the storage pool entry is critical. The storage pool
entry must be created and fulfilled through SPM, without the tag, by selecting the suitable storage
ports. The appropriate storage candidate is selected and the tag is applied to the storage pool
entry. The fact that the tag does not exist in HPE SPM is the key, because it allows Matrix to
pause for manual storage provisioning, when matching storage is not found. As a result, Matrix
searches for a storage pool entry with the matching tag, using storage tag if one is found, or
pausing if one is not found, since there are no HPE SPM candidates that are automatically
returned with that storage tag. When Matrix pauses for manual storage provisioning, the storage
pool entry is manually created and fulfilled through HPE SPM without the tag. The tag is then
applied to the storage pool entry, before resuming the Matrix workflow. If you know the storage
needs in advance, most requests are fulfilled from the manually created storage pool entries,
without delay, only pausing if there is an unanticipated request for which there is no storage pool
entry defined. These solutions assume that the administrator knows which ports are suitable for
HP-UX and for other operating systems.
If there is a concern about knowing the right ports, you can partition the VSA and non-VSA ports
across separate fabrics. For example, a fabric named Fabric_UX can contain all ports with VSA
enabled, while another fabric Fabric_Win can contain the ports with VSA disabled. When defining
the storage pool entry, you can choose the suitable fabric. If Matrix is auto-generating the storage
pool entries, it will not know which fabric to choose to ensure that HP-UX uses Fabric_UX. You
64
Optional post-installation configuration
can configure matrix with a prioritized list of fabrics to use when auto-generating storage pool
entries. It is recommended to favor the most common configuration, such as use Fabric_UX for
majority of the HP-UX requests and Fabric_Win for majority of the requests that are not for
HP-UX. This allows auto-generation of storage pool entries to work well for the majority of the
cases. For the minority of requests, auto-generation of storage pool entries does not work. The
technique described in this section about storage tags at the Matrix service template and storage
pool entry level (but not at SPM level), is used to ensure that generated storage pool entries are
not fulfilled via SPM using the wrong fabric. The storage pool entries are manually created with
the correct fabric chosen, and the suitable storage tag applied after HPE SPM has returned
suitable storage candidates.
Pre-Provisioning of Volumes and Thin Pools on EMC Symmetrix VMAX
The HPE SPM administrator must contact the EMC administrator for the following pre-provisioning
steps:
Supported RAID Levels
The HPE SPM adapter for EMC Symmetrix VMAX storage array looks for the existing storage
pool settings for all supported RAIDs. These storage pool settings for a given RAID are not
created by the adapter. Hence, the storage administrator must create a volume of a given RAID
using EMC native tools (SMC and SYMCLI). This ensures the creation of a new storage pool
setting instance for the requested RAID.
Creating Thin Volume
On EMC Symmetrix VMAX array, a thin volume gets created on a thin pool. A thin pool is normally
created for a specific RAID level. The SPM adapter does not create a thin pool, hence it is required
that the storage administrator creates a thin pool for a given RAID using EMC native tools (SMC
and SYMCLI).

Customer self repair
Hewlett Packard Enterprise customer self repair (CSR) programs allow you to repair your product.
If a CSR part needs to be replaced, it will be shipped directly to you so that you can install it at
your convenience. Some parts do not qualify for CSR. Your Hewlett Packard Enterprise authorized
service provider will determine whether a repair can be accomplished by CSR.
For more information about CSR, contact your local service provider or go to the CSR website:
www.hpe.com/support/selfrepair
Remote support
Remote support is available with supported devices as part of your warranty or contractual support
agreement. It provides intelligent event diagnosis, and automatic, secure submission of hardware
event notifications to Hewlett Packard Enterprise, which will initiate a fast and accurate resolution
based on your product’s service level. Hewlett Packard Enterprise strongly recommends that
you register your device for remote support.
For more information and device support details, go to the following website:
www.hpe.com/info/insightremotesupport/docs
Documentation feedback
Hewlett Packard Enterprise is committed to providing documentation that meets your needs. To
help us improve the documentation, send any errors, suggestions, or comments to Documentation
Feedback ([email protected]). When submitting your feedback, include the document
title, part number, edition, and publication date located on the front cover of the document. For
online help content, include the product name, product version, help edition, and publication date
located on the legal notices page.
Security bulletin and alert policy for non-Hewlett Packard Enterprise
owned software components
Open source software (such as OpenSSL) or third-party software (such as Java) are sometimes
included in Hewlett Packard Enterprise products. Hewlett Packard Enterprise discloses that the
non-Hewlett Packard Enterprise owned software components listed in the Insight Management
end user license agreement (EULA) are included with Insight Management. The EULA is included
with the Insight Management Installer on Insight Management DVD #1.
78
Support and other resources
Hewlett Packard Enterprise addresses security bulletins for the software components listed in
the EULA with the same level of support afforded Hewlett Packard Enterprise products. Hewlett
Packard Enterprise is committed to reducing security defects and helping you mitigate the risks
associated with security defects when they do occur.
When a security defect is found, Hewlett Packard Enterprise has a well defined process that
culminates with the publication of a security bulletin. The security bulletin provides you with a
high level description of the problem and explains how to mitigate the security defect.

A Backing up the CMS
The upgrade process is not reversible. If, after you begin, you decide not to complete the upgrade
to Insight Management 7.6, a backup copy of your pre-7.6 environment is required to restore
your CMS to the pre-upgrade state. Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends making a backup
of the environment before upgrading the software. The following sections describe the process
to back up and restore your pre-7.6 Matrix Operating Environment CMS configuration.
“Back up your pre-7.6 CMS configuration” (page 82)
“Restore your pre-7.6 CMS configuration” (page 86)
IMPORTANT: After the upgrade process has completed successfully, you must perform a
backup of the upgraded 7.6 configuration. This is necessary to ensure that changes to the
managed resources by the 7.6 CMS will continue to be manageable if the CMS ever needs to
be restored from backup. See the Backing up and Restoring HPE Insight Management Central
Management Server (Windows) white paper at Hewlett Packard Enterprise Information Library
for instructions about backing up an Insight Management 7.6 Windows CMS.
For an HP-UX CMS, follow the pre-7.6 instructions described in this section to back up and
restore a 7.6 environment.
Back up your pre-7.6 CMS configuration
Table 12 provides an overview of the steps required to perform a backup of your pre-7.6
environment.
Table 12 Overview of steps to back up a pre-7.6 CMS environment
Step
Action
1
Quiesce the Insight Management components.
2
Stop the Insight Management services.
3
Back up the Insight Management databases on the remote database server if Insight Management
has been configured to use a remote database.
4
Perform a full system backup of the CMS.
5
Proceed with the upgrade. (Do not restart the Insight Management services before initiating the
upgrade.)
To make a complete backup of your pre-7.6 Insight Dynamics configuration, perform the following
steps.
82
Backing up the CMS
1.
Before you stop the Insight Management services and back up your environment, quiesce
the Insight Management components. The following actions need to be performed only for
components that are installed and currently in use in your environment.
NOTE: The steps may vary slightly depending on the version of software installed on your
system. Refer to the product documentation for your release for additional information. For
an HP-UX CMS, perform steps Step 1.fand Step 1.g only.
a.
b.
c.
Ensure that all in-progress Matrix recovery management jobs have completed. View
the status of Matrix recovery management jobs by selecting Tools→Matrix recovery
management from the top menu. Select the Jobs tab to view the status of jobs. A job
with an “in progress” icon in the Status column has not yet finished.
Ensure that all in-progress Matrix OE infrastructure orchestration requests have
completed. Requests pending approval and scheduled requests can remain scheduled.
However, if a request is scheduled to run during the upgrade process, defer the execution
of the request until the upgrade process is complete.
View the status of Matrix OE infrastructure orchestration requests by selecting
Tools→Matrix infrastructure orchestration… from the top menu. Select the Requests
tab. Click the End Date column name to sort the request list. Requests with an empty
End Date have not yet finished.
Ensure that all in-progress logical server jobs have completed. Logical server jobs that
are in-progress when the HPE Logical Server Automation service stops will fail.
View the status of logical server jobs by selecting Tools→Matrix OE visualization…
from the top menu. From the lower, gray menu-bar, select Report→Logical Server
Job Status.... Click the Percent Complete column to sort the list of jobs. Jobs less than
100% complete are still in progress.
d.
Ensure all in-progress Virtual Connect jobs have completed. View the status of Virtual
Connect jobs by selecting Tools→Integrated Consoles→Virtual Connect Enterprise
Manager (VCEM)… from the top menu. Select the Jobs tab to view the status of jobs.
Click the End Time column name to sort the job list. Jobs displaying an empty End Time
have not yet finished.
e. Ensure all in-progress Virtual Machine tasks have completed. View the status of Virtual
Machine tasks by selecting Tasks & Logs→View Task Results… from the top menu.
Click the End Time column name to sort the task list. Tasks displaying an empty End
Time have not yet finished.
f. Ensure all in-progress installation and configuration tasks have completed (for example,
Configure and Repair Agents tasks or Deploy Drivers, Firmware or Agents tasks). View
the status of the tasks by selecting Tasks & Logs→View Task Results… from the top
menu. Click the End Time column name to sort the task list. Tasks displaying an empty
End Time have not yet finished.
g. Optional: Issue the gwlm history --flush command to gather the latest historical
data from the gWLM agents. Skip this step if you are not using the CMS to manage
gWLM on Integrity servers.
h. Optional: Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends waiting for all actively running
migrations to complete before stopping the Insight Control server migration services.
Migrations that are actively running when the services stop will fail. These jobs will need
to be resubmitted after restarting the services. View the status of the currently running
migrations by selecting View Status/Logs tab in the server migration wizard.
If you have customized an application, workflow, or script to asynchronously issue Insight
Management requests, temporarily disable this functionality to avoid generating Insight
Management requests during the upgrade process.
Back up your pre-7.6 CMS configuration
83
2.
Stop the Insight Management services.
a. On a Windows CMS, you can use the Windows Services utility to stop the Insight
Management services. Table 13 describes the Insight Software 6.1 to 7.3 or earlier
Windows services that you must stop before performing a backup. Refer to the product
documentation for the list of Insight software services specific to your release.
NOTE: If you are updating from Insight Software 6.x, instead of manually using the
Windows Services utility to stop services individually, you can use the command
mxsync-svcutil stop backup to stop the Insight software services. If needed,
install the script from the Insight Management DVD #1, using\mxsync\
install-mxsync.exe. By default, the mxsysnc-svcutil script is installed in the
c:\Program Files\HP\Systems Insight Manager\mxsync\bin directory.
b.
For an HP-UX CMS, the steps to stop the Insight Management services are described
in Table 14.

Proceed with the upgrade. Do not restart the Insight Management services at this time.
Restore your pre-7.6 CMS configuration
Consider the following when you are restoring a CMS configuration:
•
After the upgrade process has successfully completed and the Insight Management 7.6
CMS is actively managing resources, you cannot use the pre-upgrade backup to successfully
restore your environment. A backup of the 7.6 configuration is required to restore your
environment to a known good state.
•
See Backing up and restoring Insight Management v7.6 Central Management Server
(Windows) at the following website for instructions on backing up an HPE Insight Management
7.6 Windows CMS:
Hewlett Packard Enterprise Information Library
•
For an HP-UX CMS, the pre-7.6 instructions documented in this section can be used to back
up and restore a pre–7.6 environment.
•
If a managed resource (for example, firmware, agents, or hardware) was upgraded to a state
incompatible with the pre-upgrade CMS configuration while you were upgrading your
environment to Insight Management 7.6, restore this resource to the pre-upgrade configuration
before you restore your environment from backup. Where possible, Hewlett Packard
Enterprise recommends deferring these managed resource upgrades until the Insight
Management 7.6 upgrade has successfully completed.
If you decide not to complete the upgrade process, this section describes the steps to restore
your CMS to its pre-7.6 state. Table 16 provides an overview of the steps.
Table 16 Overview of steps to restore a pre-7.6 CMS environment
Step
Action
1
Stop any running HPE Insight Management 7.4 services.
2
Restore the database from the pre-upgrade backup if Insight Management has been configured
to use a remote database.
3
Restore the CMS using the pre-upgrade full system backup.
4
Restart the CMS.
To restore your pre-7.6 Matrix Operating Environment configuration, perform the following steps.
1. Stop the HPE Insight Management services. On a Windows CMS, you can enter the
mxsync-svcutil stop restore command to stop the Insight Management services.
For an HP-UX CMS, the steps to stop the Insight Management services are described in
Table 14.
NOTE: The mxsync-svcutil script (installed from the mxsync directory on the Insight
Management DVD 7.6) can be used to stop the Windows Insight Management services. By
default, this script is located in C:\Program Files\HP\Systems Insight Manager\
mxsync\bin.
86
Backing up the CMS
2.
If your CMS has been configured to use a remote database server, restore the Insight
Management databases. Skip this step if the Insight Management database server is running
locally on the CMS.
Restore the databases listed in Table 15 using the tool of your choice. Restore each database
using the same database name that existed when the database was saved.
3.
4.
Restore the pre-upgrade full system backup of the CMS using the tool of your choice.
Restart the CMS.
