Register to Access Account Information on Principal.com
How to set up your username, password, security questions/answers and login image and phrase to
access Personal account information online at Principal®.
Go to www.principal.com and follow these steps to securely set up your login information online. Once you’re
done, you can log in and manage account information online.
1. Find Log In Button
In the upper right corner select Log In and choose Personal as the login type. From the next page,
choose the Register Now link.

2. Tell Us Who You Are
Enter your first name, last name, and date of birth, as well as ID number or zip code and click Submit.
3. Verify Your Identity
Answer a few questions, which are administered by a trusted third-party. Below are example questions
to give you an idea of what you will see:

4. Set Your Username and Password, Provide Email Address
Once your account information is ready to access online, we will send you an email (it should only take a
minute or two). We will also use this email address to send account-related communications. You can
update your email address online any time.

5. Set Customer Service Questions
We will use this as a way to verify your identity if you call customer service.
6. Confirmation and Log In
You will see a confirmation screen. Please review. Once you receive a confirmation email (it should only
take a minute or two), you can log in with your new username and password.

7. Login with Your Username and Password
The first time you log in you will need to go through a few more steps; select your login image and phrase
(step 8), register your online security questions and answers (step 9) and consent to do business
electronically before you can view your account information.
Enter your Username and click Continue
Enter your Password and click enter.
You will see a sample login image and phrase here; you will select yours next.

8. Select your login image and phrase
Your login image and phrase is an additional security measure that helps protect you against
fake/phishing sites.
a. If you want to keep the first option shown, click “Continue with this Image and Phrase”
b. If you don’t like it, click “Get a Different Image and Phrase” until you see an option you want to
select
Note: You do not need to enter your password on this page. The combination of your image and phrase is
randomly generated to further increase security. You may not enter your own phrase.

9. Set three online security questions and answers.
These questions will help verify your identity should you forget your online username or password. Once
you are finished setting these questions and answers, click “Continue”
10. Consent to Do Business Electronically
You must agree to all the terms outlined if you want to access account information online.
11. Access Account Information
