request for discretionary personal leave needs to be submitted to the principal, or
the supervisor or designee two days in advance of the anticipated absence.

consecutive workdays unless approved by the Superintendent or designee.
SCHEDULE LIMITATIONS: Discretionary personal leave is not allowed on the
day before a district wide holiday, the day after a district wide holiday, or
days scheduled for Districtwide standardized tests unless approved by the
Superintendent or designee.
Please refer to the AISD Employee Handbook for additional details.
What happens if I have leftover leave time?
At the end of each school year, any unused local sick leave, state sick leave and state
personal leave is carried over to the next school year. Local sick leave, state sick leave
and state personal leave will not be approved for more than the unused leave carried
over from prior years plus the leave time earned during the current school year.
Who should I call with leave questions?
Employees should first direct specific questions about leave balances and
usage to the campus or department timekeeper and/or supervisor. If you need
additional assistance, please contact the AISD Leave Office:

LEAD PROGRAMS
LEAD Speaker Series
AISD Leadership Development brings national speakers who are experts in
the field of educational leadership to the district to promote dialogue among
district and campus leaders on effective leadership issues and practices.
Topics are aligned with the AISD Board of Trustees priorities and the
district’s strategic plan and are enhanced through targeted professional
development opportunities. Launched in the 2012-2013, LEAD speakers
included Dr. Tyrone Howard, Dr. Sonia Nieto, and Dr. Pedro Noguera.

provoke and foster self-awareness and self-efficacy for our novice principals.
LEAD Teacher Leadership Program
Austin ISD and the Schlechty Center work collaboratively to provide a unique

leadership skills. The LEAD Teacher Leadership Program provides a special

teachers who have demonstrated commitment and a willingness to make a
contribution toward the changes of their school. This initiative is a series of
ongoing and collaborative learning experiences focused on student needs.
