Much research has focused on studying the variation of viral sequences, and that has taught us a great deal about
how viruses evolve and in some cases adapt. The hosts also interact with and in many cases control viruses at
the tissue, cellular and intracellular levels, and there is often a complex interplay between the evolution of viruses
and their hosts that can occur over highly variable time scales. In some cases the virus can capture host sequences
and use them for their benefit, and in other cases host components may evolve to block or modify virus
replication. In this program we examine a variety models for viral evolution, and also examine their various
interplays with their hosts in a variety of systems.
