Synopsis
In this delightful play with music we learn about Frank, a harassed business executive
wondering where his life has gone, and Rosy, a careworn wife and mother who wonders
where the romance has gone. Throughout the play we progress both backwards and
forwards in time discovering what brought them together and what’s tearing them
apart, with songs charting the milestones in their life.
Not a ‘musical’ but a beautiful show that contains 13 gorgeous songs and sharp but
heartfelt writing that will need strong singers and actors. There will be ‘movement’ but
no dancing as such. The songs are quite tricky so do take time to learn them as well as
possible.
Characters
Both characters will start the show aged late 30’s / early 40’s but during the show will
also play aged 16 and then up to 70’s /80’s with ages in-between. All changes will be
done on stage as part of the action moving fluidly from one age to another. Both actors
are on stage for the whole show. As this is a 2 hander we can be flexible with rehearsals
so don’t let the fact you may be away in August put you off (unless it’s the whole of
August!)
Frank
Frank was the popular kid at school, the one with the gift of the gab who cheeked the
teachers. He’s had a successful career in sales but now wonders what life is all about and
his frustration is spilling over into his marriage.

Songs to learn – ‘Diary Song’ (with Rosy) and ‘Living in this City’ – solo.
Rosy
Rosy is the love of Frank’s life. The sweetheart from school. She’s a busy wife, mother
and teacher, juggling all three and she’s tired. Tired of juggling, tired of coping and tired
of her stagnating life now the romance has gone. She likes to remember how fantastic it
was when she and Frank were young and carefree. Can she ever bring that back?
