Amber is a classic, romantic Rajasthani fort Palace. The rugged, time-ravaged walls of the Fort may not look beautiful from the outside, but the interior is a virtual paradise. Inside the fort visit the Jag Mandir or Hall of Victory. BL Mar. 8: TUE- JAIPUR / FATEH PUR SIKRI / AGRA- TAJ MAHAL Breakfast at Hotel. Travel by Shatabadi express train (AC Chair car) to Bharatpur and continue overland to Fatehpur Sikri, an imperial capital frozen in time, was constructed by Akbar the Great In 1569 and abandoned 15 years later due to severe water shortage and some think the water became highly toxic due to a high concentration of phosphates in the water. Within the city, you will tour the Diwan-l-Aam or Hall of Public Audience. Diwan-I-Khaas or the Hall of Private Audience is a two storied building. The exterior of the hall is simple but the interior is fascinating. From the four corners of the building, there are stone bridges leading across the throne. Panch Mahal or Five Story Palace, building and the architecture is Persian in style like a Buddhist monastery. Palace of Jodha Bai is named after Jehangir’s wife Jodha Bai. Birbal Palace was the residence of Birbal, Akbar’s favorite courtier, famous for his wit and wisdom. Miriam’s House also known as the Golden House was Akbar’s Christian wife from Goa. Ankh Michauli is where the emperor played hide and seek with the ladies of the harem and was probably used for storing records. Sheikh Salim Chisti Dargh is Sheikh Salim Chisti’s tomb, originally built of red sandstone but later rebuilt in white marble by Jehangr. After the tour of Fatehpur Sikri, travel to Agra where no other historical monument has evoked as much awareness and admiration as the Taj Mahal. Agra is a medieval city, located on the banks of the Yamuna River, founded by Sultan Skiandar Lodi in 1506. The Mughal Golden Age began under Emperors Akbar’s, Jahangir’s and Shah Jahan’s reigns. BL Mar. 9: WED- AGRA FORT / KHAJURAHO After Breakfast visit Agra Fort, built alongside the Yamuna River, stretching about 2.5 Km representing the first major building project of Akbar built by three of the greatest Mughal emperors. The fort is surrounded by a moat. The fort contains splendid palaces both in red sandstone and white marble built by two generations of prolific builders, Akbar, Janangir and Shajahan. Transfer to airport & travel by air to Khajuraho a city of living temples, of the Indo-Aryan type and generally classified as "Nagara” or North Indian. These temples were built during the Chandela period, a dynasty that survived for five centuries before falling to the onslaught of Islam. After breakfast, we do a half-day city tour of Varanasi visiting the Temples and by lanes. Afternoon excursion to Sarnath, a place where Buddha preached his first lessons on Nirvana. Later visit the museum with its fine collection of Buddhist artifacts. BL Mar. 12: SAT - VARANASI / MUMBAI Breakfast at Hotel. Later transfer to airport and fly to Mumbai.
